This happened on a very popular cycling route in NW Houston. I did not know him personally, but the unfortunate victim trained with the same group as I did for last month's Houston to Austin MS150.

Reward Offered In Hit-And-Run Of Cyclist

A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and charges against a person who killed a man riding a bicycle, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Eric John Schlueter, 55, was riding his bike in the 35500 block of Old Hempstead Highway at about 11 a.m. on May 14.

Witnesses said a person driving a maroon or red Chevrolet or GM pickup truck hit Schlueter.

The driver did not stop. A witness told police that he did not hear the driver try to brake.

    Schlueter died at the scene.

"This senseless crime didn't have to happen," said Phyllis Schlueter, Eric Schlueter's widow. "It has shattered our lives forever."

Schlueter was the father of three children. His widow said he started riding a bike when his oldest son died in 2002. She said Schlueter found it theraputic.

Crime Stoppers and ConocoPhillips have each offered $5,000 rewards.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Or drunk, or looking for a CD on the floor, or lighting a cigarette, or lost in thought about his ex-wife's custody suit, or...
