Look pedals

Hola

I'm going to be putting my old Look pedals on my Trek, which will become my commuter bike. So I need some shiney new ones for my Lemond. Does anyone have any that they recommend? I don't know much about Look's, I got my current pair as a swap from a friend. I really like them. It looks like the Keo pedal uses different cleats, so I'd like to stay consistent and use pedals that use the standard cleat vs. the Keo.

I think Look pedals are cleat specific so you will probably have to get Looks. I believe a lot of the brands are that way. I have a friend who is a Look snob he has used them for 20+ years. I just recently went to clip less and use Shimano SPD’s. I like them pretty well. They do there job, but they are nothing to write home about!

I have Look compatible pedals and love them. I put them on both bikes. I think you just have to find cleats that work for Look style pedals.

I prefer Looks over SPD's because I have, in fact, been standing on a roadside trying to get clicked into SPD's, no less than 20-30 times in a row without managing. Screaming at them!!! That should probably go into the embarrassment thread. Same in Spin class once.

I am starting to hit the Looks without even looking (erm - pun not intended) most of the time, especially because of the way they are weighted to be in the appropriate position for you.

OTOH, with MTB shoes and SPD cleats, you can step down on the pedal without being clicked in in an emergency, which is hard with Looks.

I guess it is really just a matter of preference.

And yes, I believe the KEO pedals have different cleats.

I know that Looks require special cleats There are different subtypes of look pedals, and the Keo is one of them that has slightly different cleats that you have to use. So I ruled that one out so I don't have to swap cleats on my shoes for the one bike that uses regular look cleats and one that uses Keo cleats. I hope that clarifies my question.

Alpine, I agree with you on the ease of clipping in/out with Looks. I had Bebop (not really that well known) as my first pedal and they were much more of a PITA.

Thanks for the responses so far. It looks like they only have 2 pedals in 06 that aren't Keo styled, so I guess my choices are pretty limited anyway

I've got the basic FQV Road pedal. I bought it because it was my first set of clipless and I didn't want to buy a high price road pedal/cleat system if I wasn't sure how much I'd get into cycling (the FQV is only $50).

I've only been using them for a few weeks, but I haven't had any problems clipping/unclipping and there is a nice easy-to-use dial directly on the pedal where you can adjust your tension. I have it set on the very lowest so that I can get clip out easier, but sometimes it's hard to tell I'm clipped in because it doesn't always make an audible 'clicking' noise.

The other nice thing about these pedals that I've noticed, especially as a new rider, is that the pedal itself has a large enough surface area that in a crisis (i.e. when you need to clip in and for some reason you keep missing) you can pedal without being clipped in, though it's tricky and slippery, but it can save your butt when you just need to keep a bit of momentum up while you try to get your cleat clipped in. Of course, if you're a more experienced rider then you won't have this problem anyway.
