    Maddening Monday

I'm really tired after a long day, so hopefully, this will make sense.
Today I took my 11-yr-old DS in for what we thought was going to be a consultation at the dentist. He ended up having three hours of oral surgery! This is a child who is terrified of anyone touching his mouth, but he pulled through it like a little soldier! I was really proud of him once again...
On Saturday, his Dad took him for a 15 mile bike ride. Apparently this was not enough for him, because on Sunday he asked me to take him for a 10 miler! So I did.
To start out, he realized his rear was pretty sore from the previous day. But he kept going. He took a descent at 24 mph! Toward the end of the ride, we had to climb back up the hill. I climbed it ahead of him, got to the top, stopped, and thought I would wait for him to walk up it. But to my surprise, there he was behind me, climbing up the hill! I was so proud! I have an upcoming cyclist on my hands.
So today I kept telling him that if he can take a descent and climb the hills the way he does, he can do anything, and to think about that instead of what was happening at the dentist. That seemed to work for him.

Good for you and the boy! And what a great idea to teach him about visualization to use during the dental work. What a useful tool. Look forward to many rides with him!

Wow! That's great riding that he did! And I love your suggestion to use visualization at the dentist. I might try that. I have major issues with going to the dentist. Good for him!

I avoided the dentist for years because of my reaction to all that stuff they do. I finally got over myself and went, and I use a visualization almost every time. I picture our beloved dachshund, Schatzi, through her entire life cycle. I take it back to little dachshund egg is fertilized and cells begin to multiply if I need to! (For a root canal, for example). I see her with her little brothers and sisters and her mom, I remember when we brought her home...etc. She lived 19 years, and I have a vivid imagination, so it's never failed me.

I'm going there to get my teeth cleaned today. Now I do that every 6 months, like a good do-bee. Hey, if I avoid another root canal this way, it's more than worth it!
