    Can Chamios lose their padding?

I've been riding on the trainer all winter. One thing I have discovered is that riding on the trainer sure toughens up the old girlie bits. I have two pair of Terry shorts, both about a year old. I'm starting to notice lately, that things down below seem to be getting numb more often while on the trainer. So I'm wondering if a chamios can break down over time, or am I just spending to much time on the trainer. I have, earlier this winter, ridden close to 2 hours on the trainer with little discomfort. Now six weeks later, one hour and things are going numb.

I must say however, that said girlie bits HAVE toughen up. On the few rides I've managed outside I have had no seat discomfort. But 30 miles is about the most I've managed at one shot outdoors. So what do you think? Are the chamios going flat? Or is it just me. BikerHen

Chamois can definitely pack out, same thing that happens to a ski boot liner. The materials break down from age, washing, friction, pressure, oxidation. If you are rotating between two identical pairs of shorts with the same amount of wear, and you didn't have problems with them before, I would seriously suspect that the chamois are, indeed, worn out.

Good excuse to buy new shorts !

Yup - sure can! I never had a problem with saddle sore (still don't) Cept for the one time my chamois was wearing thin. I kept thinking it was "just me", until I bought some new (better) shorts. Whew.....once again it Wasn't my mind!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
