    Question Help ID my trainer

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I have had the good fortune to get a trainer off craigslist for $40! I'm psyched (though now we're having stellar weather and I haven't used it yet )!

Thing is, I don't know what type of trainer it is (wind, mag, fluid). It's an older Blackburn Trackstand, and the graphics make me think it's from the late 90's. What can I look for in the *works* that will tell me what type it is?

    Thanks!!

Can you post a picture? I have an old Blackburn Trackstand mag trainer. Is there anything to adjust the resistance? The mag trainer had a circular black housing on one side of the contact roller and a flywheel on the other side. Most fluid trainers seem to have metal fins as part of the resistance unit. My mag unit no longer works as the magnets apparently rub and emit a bad smell.

Yeah, as I sent the OP I realized that a photo would go a long way to figuring this out. I'm at work right now, so that's out (for now).

It seems like the CycleOps I borrowed when rehabbing my knee. That is, resistance is changed only using your gears. The only adjustment is moving the contact wheel toward/away from the tire. It does have a circular black housing on one side and a flywheel on the other. I wonder if Trackstands are only mags, and they have other names for their fluids/winds?
