This Saturday the bike was due it's first service at my LBS, so I booked it in at the same time for a bike fit as I felt I may be riding a little low in the saddle and my bum kept sliding forward too. Well I have to praise Ian, who did the fit for me. What a star. His advice was brilliant and he adjusted everything to fit my shape (long legs, high waist). Well my saddle was way too low and he ended up raising it a good 5", tilting it back marginally and moving it back a bit too. He also twisted the bars at the front to straighten my wrists and gave good advice on foot-on-pedal position and how to release the death-grip I sometimes find myself doing on the handlebars LOL! He sent me out for a quick spin to check everything felt ok and it was.
So the cycle ride home (about 7 miles) was a breeze. There is no flat road round us, it's up or it's down (mostly up it seems LOL) and where I'd been getting up hills with a lot of grimacing and puffing I felt much more comfortable and the new saddle position gave a lot more power to my pedalling. I even passed another cyclist, going up one hill! Never done that before. Hubby, who came along for the ride was amazed at the difference it made. He didn't have to slow down for me all the time.
All in all, I can thoroughly recommend a bike fit session. If you're feeling the strain on your bike, a little tweak can make a massive difference.
