Okay . . . I helped them a little bit. (And I didn't run over one of them. The fifth one moved off the trail.)

That is so cute! I give geese a wide berth though, even if I have the right of way. They have a pretty mean hiss and bite, haha.

Yeah, don't mess with them. They're mean.

One of the trails I rode on in Ohio followed a river, and there was some nice grassy areas on one side. I came around a corner and--GEESE. Geese everywhere. I got off the bike and walked through them. They seem to be less angry and more apt to get out of the way once they figure out what you are. (This was roughly this time of year, though. No babies.)
At least I don't leave slime trails.

I once stood for over a half hour on a narrow path along a canal path in Avon, England while a swan terrorized and occupied the whole path with his/her spread wings while throwing a hissy fit. Our Kayaks (fiberglass) sported swan dings from the first year we had them. Don't mess with swans, geese, turkies etc.

This is timely since here is what greeted me on the trail today:

Fortunately since nesting and baby-raising season is over, they weren't mean or ornery, but neither would they move. There were a bunch of ducks and more geese off to the side of the trail as well. Since I was almost to my turn-around point anyway, I broke an extra cookie in to a zillion pieces and threw it to the critters (that got the whole gaggle to come around) and enjoyed the moment. Then I turned around and rode away before they attacked me for my granola bar!
