I just read all the wonderful thoughts for Helga. And how awful I feel for her having been in such an accident. I do wish her a speedy recovery! But I would like to know how she is doing now. An my dh want s to know where she was riding when it happend? Open area? City?
Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Hi and many thanks for the kind thoughts!
Biker Z sent me a copy of your E-Mail. I am doing much better. I still walk a bit oddly, part of my chest walls hurt and I occasionally get head spins, but that is all going to get better with time. Luckily, I have a wonderful husband and family and a lot of great friends who look out for me. All in all, I feel blessed.
From what I have been told, the accident happened on a street in Pleasanton. I was pointing out a wet manhole cover and somehow got caught up in/on it and went down. I think my front wheel was what actually hit the wet side of the cover. I personally don't remember anything until a few days after being in Hiller Highland Hospital in Oakland, which is where I was taken originally. I was there for a week and then was moved to Alta Bates in Berkeley where I stayed for almost two weeks. Now, I've been home for just over a week, and life continues to improve!
My advice to everyone is to be careful of slippery roads AND WEAR A HELMET!
My helmet is broken in two spots on the right side. Good thing I was wearing it or my head would have really been whacked!
Best wishes to you and yours. Be safe!
    Helga
