    Bikes are an illness

    To disable ads, please log-in.

The end of August we bought a Trek 820 wsd and Trek Sky. A week ago we picked up a Trek Madone 4.5 and a Jamis Quest. Yesterday we sold our first mtbs and my partner ordered a Trek Fuel EX8 and I ordered a Jamis XC Comp.

I keep repeating to myself....no more bikes, no more bikes, no more bikes! I'm not sure it's working.

On another topic: I can't recommend the Quest enough. If you're looking for a very solid, comfortable ride for the long haul this bike is fantastic! I love it.

I am all too familiar with this illness. There is no known cure.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

Gee, the karens, I dragged out my disease longer....at least I waited several years in between each bike purchase. Meanwhile I amused myself with each bike before and broke in "the horse" with km before buying another one.

    Just ride those puppies.

Oooooh, which Jamis are you getting? Is it the Dakar XC Comp or something else? I have the Dakar XC Comp and love it - though it has been...modified...since I brought it home last year. Which model year is it?

ummm, my name is Catherine and I have the same disease since I started riding in the winter/spring of 2010. Thankfully I seem to have reached equilibrium with my current two bikes, two others were bought, one of which was heavily modified, both sold.

That was July! (And can I borrow your credit card? ).
LOL, if it involved credit cards we wouldn't be buying bikes. My partner's parents died a few years ago and their house finally sold. She got enough to do house repairs, put a little aside and buy these bikes

It's the XC Comp 2012. I got it for 1600, which I thought was a fair price.

I was infected with this many years ago. It went into remission for a bit, but it came back this year. I bought a new bike two days ago, and already I'm thinking of my next. But, as shootingstar posted, I'm going to drag it out a bit (I hope). I'd hate to see what would happen if I lived somewhere with year-round cycling weather!

It might be an illness, but it has excellent side effects. It's cheaper than boating and motorcycling and look at what people look like that pursue each of those "sports"

It's an illness that I want no cure from. And it's an addiction I might add. Even if I can't bike right now I am compelled to peruse bicycling websites, bicycling accessories and even visit by automobile places that I frequently bicycle, it feels somehow comforting to be in my bicycle haunts and keep me connected.

Small condolence but I've been on a stationary bike, at least my legs are going round

I've only been riding for about 3 years, but in that time I've had 2 road bikes, 1 CX bike, 1 mountain bike, and have a new mountain bike on the way. If money were no object I'd have a fat bike, too.

First road bike I sold to a friend after a year of riding it. Current mtn bike will go to my kid.

Speaking of the kid, in the past 2 years we purchased a tandem so that he could ride with us (behind his dad) and he also has a CX bike. DH has also purchased in recent years a fat bike and a new CX bike. So in 3 years time our household's bike collection has grown by almost 9 bikes and only 1 bike has left our stable.

    Since 2000 I have had:
a mountain bike modified a bit for the road (DS now has it somewhere. he used to commute on it). This used to be DH's hard tail
3 road bikes prior to the ones I have now. 2 were traded in/sold with a 4 year period. One was too big and the LBS took the frame back after 2 years and gave me a smaller frame where we transferred all of the components over
a flat bar road bike/hybrid (Jamis Coda) which I sold last fall
A FS Norco mountain bike sold last fall. I liked the idea of mountain biking, but never got very good at it
I now have a carbon Kuota road bike with more aggressive geometry and a Guru custom titanium road bike with more relaxed geometry, a rack, and couplers for taking apart/travel

My next purchase will be an around town bike for errands/coffee runs, but that won't be for awhile. Until I move to a flatter part of town.
DH has a carbon and ti road bike. Before that, he had an alu and other carbon road bike in addition to the 2 mountain bikes
DS #1 has the hand me down mountain bike, a single speed Redline commuter, and DS#2's steel Serotta road bike
DS #2 had a hard tail mountain bike, a cross bike (DH built that one), and 3 road bikes between ages 13-19. He now has an older Trek road bike he bought second hand
