Anyone riding the big centuries in Maryland, Sept 10-11?

I'm doing the metric version of the Civil War century this Saturday, then volunteering at the Indian Head century post-ride picnic on Sunday.

Will anyone else be at either of these rides?

I'm doing the CWC metric. My primary riding partner backed out.
Has anyone heard of road conditions? Debris on the road? Washouts?
Look for us (all Bicycle Place jerseys...there will be a lot of us) at the start around 8.

I know the Oxon Hill folks are organizing a scouting mission either today or tomorrow to check damage to the route for their ride on Sunday. I imagine the Baltimore Bike folks are doing the same thing today.

Did you get an email from them a couple of days ago? They said they might not be able to paint the road markings due to the weather, so be prepared to rely on cue sheets.

I'm sure they are out there now.
I got the email. I'm okay with cue-sheets (will have to put the cue-sheet-holder-thinga-ma-gig back on my bike's handlebars tho').

    Updates:

The Indian Head 100 (Southern Maryland Century) has been postponed. The CWC is still on.

    Details follow.

    Indian Head 100:

It is with profound regret that we announce the postponement of the Indian Head 100, originally scheduled for this Sunday, September 11th, 2011. Due to the current State of Emergency within Charles County and at the request of the Office of the County Commissioners and the Sherriff's Office, we have agreed to reschedule the ride(s). We are tentatively looking at moving the event to Sunday, Oct 2, 2011, to avoid conflicts with other previously scheduled events in the area. As soon as that date is finalized, further announcements will be made. As most are aware, several roads incorporated into the various routes have sustained significant damage, flooding, or experienced mudslides. The forecast for the weekend still includes the potential for additional rain and thunderstorms and the possibility of further damage to saturated road foundations. Thank you for understanding. Safety for all participant s is and will remain paramount.

    Civil War Century:

Our folks are out checking the route now (and attempting to mark it). There has been intermittent drizzle and even some heavy rain.

As you all know, there has been much rain this week. Yesterday, some of our roads would have been blocked by flooding. An initial phone call to some local folks indicates that those roads were passable this morning.

The portion of the routes that we have examined and attempted to mark look OK and passable. Our volunteers are continuing to check the routes. It needs to be perfectly dry, and remain perfectly dry for awhile, to successfully mark the routes. Unfortunately, some of our route markings have already washed away, and it is raining now, which is hindering our marking attempts. Though we will continue our efforts, it will be necessary for you to use your cue sheets tomorrow. We will do our best to update you on the status of the marking when you check in tomorrow morning. So please ask if we don’t tell you!

As always, there are broken up sections of pavement at places (road maintenance issues are common this year). Specifically noted is an area about 1/4 mile past the Mt Aetna rest stop. Though we would normally attempt to paint a warning at these areas, as we have noted, it might not be possible due to the wet roads.

Needless-to-say, you will need to exercise extreme caution on the route. Conditions could change today and tonight - so even though we are looking at the route (and marking it) today, conditions could change. Please be careful. Be cautions everywhere, especially down hills and around corners.

How'd it go for you? I looked for you at the start and the rest stops but never saw you.

I had a good ride. Just two of us on the metric. For some reason I was uncharacteristically hungry during the ride and ate my way thru the route. PB&J, nectarines and bananas, tomato sandwich, trail mix. Gatorade to float a boat.

I got a late start. I was there by about 8:25, but probably didn't start riding until almost 9:00.

I could definitely feel that I was in better shape last year, but after the reststop at the Fairfield Fire Dept I was okay. And I was very glad for that breeze from the north, otherwise I think it would have gotten pretty hot.

I had 1.5 tomato sandwiches at Fairfield, 2 tomato and swiss cheese sandwiches at the end, plus orange sherbet and black cherry ice cream (which I believe count as two servings of fruit. ) Plus the usual gu and gatorade.

I loved the route change that took us over the Sachs Covered Bridge, instead of passing it on another road.
