    Hi,
I'm moving to the Old Town Alexandria and looking for a fitness club that offers exceptional spin Classes and a cycling group to meet new friends and learn the trail system in the DC metro area. I welcome any recommendations.
    Thank you!

Welcome to TE! I don't live in that area, but was recently visiting and discovered that you can order free bike maps here.

And here is a map of Alexandria. IIRC the Mount Vernon trail goes through Old Town and from there you can connect to lots of other trails.

    Happy riding!

The Washington Area Bicycling Association (WABA) has lots of information about riding in DC. There's also goDCgo and Capital BikeShare (good resources for cycling for transportation in the DC area, which is the best way to get around).

I took wonderful spin classes at a rec center in Fairfax, but it's pretty far from Old Town. Not sure about classes in or near Old Town. But with all the great cycling in and around DC, who needs spin classes, at least in the spring, summer, and fall??

There are quite a few DC-area TEers here, and I'm sure they will chime in. Welcome to the area and enjoy your riding.

The Bike Washington site has lots of info on local trails:

    http://bikewashington.org

Arlington County has a good bike map showing their trails and on-road bike routes (bike lanes and other recommended streets for cycling):

Potomac Pedalers (http://www.potomacpedalers.org) has some trail rides, generally in the slower ride categories. They have a ride every Sunday that does a trail loop in Arlington and ends with lunch in Shirlington.

For road rides, you might be interested in the Oxon Hill club, too: http://www.ohbike.org. They generally ride in southern Maryland but many of their ride starts are not too far from here. They have a fair number of members who live in Alexandria and Arlington.

    Gone but not forgotten:
    - Silver 2003 aluminum road bike
