watermelon onto a flat bike rack and make it home without it falling off. However I only live a couple of blocks from the Farmer's Market, I don't think it would have lasted much longer. Dagnabit, I wish I had a picture. In those short couple of blocks I got some honks and finger pointing at the back of my bike.

I see you're very resourceful and a creative thinker. My DH has one of those racks, I think by Topeak, that you can buy various items to slide/lock onto it. He has a square metal/mesh basket that attaches to the rack and then has a cargo netting set up that holds things in it. Pretty cool.

How was your melon? I'd love to see a photo. I think you should go buy a substitute melon, if you've already cut into the current one, and "re-enact" the entire thing with photos just for our viewing pleasure. What do you think? lol.

They make square watermelons in Japan. That'd make it much easier...

    (But I think they're something like $80 a pop)

You guys crack me up! Yes I did cut into it and it was one of the best watermelons I've had all year. And yes I had an inkling to get another one and do it over just for pictures except I am one person and it was a very large watermelon, otherwise it would have fit into my front basket.

One person, two watermelons and I'm leaving for a few days after the 4th - not such a good idea. But I just may try that again in a week or two. It was pretty funny looking as it had one of those orange straps on it like for cargo and multiple bungees. Actually I thought the market manager took a photo of it but when I went back to return the strap she had a malfunction with the camera. Boo. If I had known that the photo didn't materalize I would have taken one as soon as I got home. Boo.
