Question about elevation on Map my Ride - help please

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am unsure how to read the elevation data on Map my Ride. I've included a screen shot of a hill that I mapped. There are different colors on the map but I am unsure of what they represent, are they examples of steeper or more strenuous sections of the hill? Is this even considered much of a hill? I know that last question is relative to the part of the country you are in and in mountainous regions this is a blip on the screen. I would like to know more about understanding the elevation feature on map my ride.

That's weird, I don't see that data on MMR. Maybe it's a premium feature. Your screen grab is hard to see, but most people would say that anything over 10% is moderately steep, and 20% is very steep.

Historically, MMR greatly underestimated both grade and total climbing, but I think they may have upgraded that in their site revisions.

Oakleaf, if you go there to map a ride and click at least two navigation points on the map look to the bottom of the screen where it says elevation and click on it and this colored bar graph comes up. You can choose to view the elevation data or not to view it. Sorry that the shot came out fuzzy and I'm not sure how to make it bigger but the upper end of the scale says 19% so by your criteria that would make it pretty steep. I don't have the premium membership, only the free one.

I found out about the elevation feature here on TE I never knew it existed either.

I've never liked that particular elevation view. For a better profile view, just go in and create a new workout with that ride. Put some of your data in, then view the work out. You will then get to see a more readable profile image. Here's a link to an example showing how MMR displays elevation for a work out: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...012.1680851358

That view is easier to understand, however for most of my rides I do a round trip so I feel like the view is a bit skewed, then if I just did one way...if that makes sense.

This evening I rode that hill and made it up, last year I was unable to.
