Happy Bike to Work Day! Celebrate!

A few words of inspiration for tomorrow (swiped from About.com Best Bicycle Quotes):

Life is like a 10-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use.

~Charles Schultz, creator of the Peanuts cartoon strip.

The bicycle is the most efficient machine ever created. Converting calories into gas, a bicycle gets the equivalent of three thousand miles per gallon.

    ~Bill Strickland, The Quotable Cyclist

Truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with a seat missing, but it hurts.

    ~Leslie Nielsen, Naked Gun 2 1/2.

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.

    ~Arthur Conan Doyle

I posted one of these quotes on my FB page. I can't ride to work today because I have to have an information booth set up at 6am at "Bike to Work Central" in our downtown area. It will be fun! Sure it is for my job, but it will still be fun

I can't bike to work (ever), but I am taking the bus today, so at least I'm not adding more carbon to the earth, since the bus runs with our without me. Car-free days are the best days!

last night it thundered and lightninged all night long- and still was this morning. I really don't want to get struck by lightning on my steel bike, so I drove.
but of the last 8 weeks, I've ridden 6 of them. Not too bad.

Have a great ride today everyone!!!!

I did my first ever nearly full week of fun biking commuting this week, not because of Bike to Work Week, but more because the university students left last weekend.

Last night I got fenders at the LBS and will install them this weekend.

However, today I drove as I have to get groceries and run other errands (to pick up other various supplies) after work.

It was sad this morning - I really enjoyed the biking and look forward to getting back to it Monday.

I'm off today, but I biked every work day this month except for one, and it's been raining for as long as I can remember. My town is having something at a local park, but I probably won't head over. I'm having a rest day. C'est la vie.

We had over 50 cyclists show up at our BTWD event. I think that was a record high turnout.

Made my first bike commute of 2011 to the office today. 11.5 miles each way, gently rolling hills. Was determined to get one in this week during Bike to Work Week - despite being on the road at meetings Mon-Thurs.

Felt good to dust off the old commuting legs! And...have a reminder about how much having laptop, power cords, notebooks, change of clothes on the back end changes balance on the bike.

But it's motivation for getting back on track on the fat loss...getting closer to my goal (40lbs more to go) will make the 30lbs of commuting cargo neutral vs. now!

I biked to work today, my 5th Bike to Work day, but only my 2nd bike commute this year.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

Heck yeah, YAY YOU!! Congrats on your commute, hope it was a fun one! And many happy returns of the day.

We only had twenty or so folks at our work event. Not too bad, but not great either for a company of over 1000 people. It was a brilliant day here for it, it couldn't have been more beautiful. The mountains were even out to help us celebrate.

Yay everyone who got to ride in to work (or errands) today... To those who couldn't we know you were with us in spirit!

Yeah - that's me with the round glasses on. I was in charge of banana distribution - at the end I was handing them off water bottle style to anyone riding by (we had 4 cases of bananas to give away!)
