Stock ti road frames in XS sizes?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I've been starting to think about a ti road frame. I've been looking around online a bit and it looks like no one makes a stock size in XS that would fit me. I'm not quite ready to make the leap to a cu$tom yet.

I looked at Lynsky's site. They have XS sizes with the effective top tube size I need (50cm) but the standovers are 2-3cm taller than I can do. I need a 70cm standover max. If they were a bit more compact I'd really be interested. The prices for the stock frames are good, $1500-$2k, but customs are almost twice that.

I emailed Lynsky telling them just what I was looking for and they emailed back pointing me toward a frame that was still too big. I emailed back politely reiterating what I was looking for and I never heard from them again *shrug*

Does anyone have any ideas where I can look? Litespeed offers few ti bikes anymore. I can't even find any useful info yet on Merlins.

There's no price penalty for a custom Seven vs. a stock Seven.

They've downsized a bit since I got my frame, but I think TiCycles still makes their Hyak frame in a 48 with 650's. I have one that I got as a prize. It is a nice bike. (I can measure the standover for you if you'd like - they don't have much info on the web site anymore)

I just heard back again from Lynsky that they are not trying too hard: "Our standover is measure center of the top tube so you may have some room just in front of the saddle."

Then he pointed me toward my local dealer, which I already knew about.

If I decide to drop coin on a custom I'd go look at Moots or Eriksen (both in Steamboat Springs, CO).

I saw a Bella on ebay. I'd like to stay with 700c wheels.

Drats. I'm prepared to sell a custom Moots frame that I own (it's unfortunately a little too small for me). It has a 500mm tt, but the standover (measured in the center of the top tube) is 726 mm. Otherwise, it could work for you.

It's a shame. It pains me that a bike this nice is just hanging on a wall in my house. But you have motivated me to get my act together to get it sold. I keep thinking that nobody out there could possibly need a bike this small, and you've proven me wrong. It may take a while, but I'm hoping it finds a new home.

    Good luck with your search!

Darn double darn. I just went and looked at the standover of the Surly Pacer I used to ride. It was 71.5. At my limit. I don't think I could handle another cm taller. If I could I'd love to see if I could offer your Moots a home.

I can't say enough about how comfortable Terry bikes are for small women with long legs & short torsos. I'm riding a vintage Terry frame with an updated drive train. It has a 70.2cm standover height & 48.3cm top tube length. Its the ONLY road bike I've ever been comfortable on.

Georgena is still designing bikes. In fact, she just designed a road bike for my mom. Georgena has her bikes built by Waterford. I'm not sure if they do Ti. What I do know is that high quality steel has come a long way, baby. Mom's bike rides like silk. There is an obvious difference in the ride quality between her new steel & my vintage steel. If you're thinking Ti because of the ride quality, today's high quality steel may rival it. Regardless, you could contact Georgena to see if they can do Ti.

Here's a link to the Terry website if you are interested. You can email them & they'll put you in touch with Georgena. She was great to work with on Mom's bike. http://www.terrybicycles.com/Bicycles/Semi-Custom
