Carla Swart Killed in South Africa

I went to school with Carla (and Brent from BMC). She just signed with HTC-Columbia. She's beautiful, graceful, elegant, and a fierce competitor.

My heart is heavy. Taken too soon.

My son is a Lees-McRae cycling recruit for 2011, and this really hits close to home, both from a cycling fan and mom-of-a-cyclist standpoint.
I feel really sad about this. I have watched Carla race locally for years and cheered her on at every opportunity. I didn't know her other than from those races, but by all accounts she was as fantastic a person as she was a cyclist.
Just tragic.

I just saw this on Facebook. Although I didn't know her, it seems such a tragedy. My former exchange student trained in S. Africa for a few winters and told me some horrific stories about riding there.
