    an autumn mystery

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Something weird happened yesterday-- Sunday evening I lugged out to the curb the 10 huge paper bags full of leaves I'd raked over the weekend, even though our pickup isn't until Tuesday. When I went out for my run at 5:30 am Monday, I'm pretty sure they were all still there. But when I took my dog out for a quick walk at about 7, there were only 2 bags.

Who would walk off with 8 bags full of leaves? and why? and why leave 2 bags behind?

It's fine with me if someone wants my leaves, but this is just plain weird.

Composting or mulching? My neighbor puts a sign out every fall, asking for leaves, and I'm pretty sure that's what he does with them.

Hah, I was surfing Craig's List last night, and the number of people that had bagged leaves listed for giveaway in the "free" area was pretty amazing.

I've been tempted to steal the bagged leaves from my neighbor's house. Perfectly good compost being hauled off to the dump!

Yep, we've needed leaves as well. We only have fruit trees on our property, so not many leaves all told. Leaves are great mulch and great for compost.

They might have only taken a few of the bags because that's all they could fit in their car!

Sounds like the work of a compost wacko. I occasionally have Dh ride out on his Xtracycle to pick up the bags of leaves and branches left on the side of the road by the city clean-up crew. More recently DS helped a friend rake up some leaves in the friends yard and they brought the leaves over to me without even being asked. I couldn't have been a more proud mama.

I regularly pick up leaves that others have graciously raked and bagged for me! I use them in my vegetable and flower gardens after I've mowed them with the mulcher and put them in my compost system.

I am tempted to do the same with grass clippings in the summer, but I figure anyone who bags their grass clippings probably uses nasty chemicals on their lawn, so I pass them by. Too bad, because grass clippings and leaves make for some powerful compost!

I'll be using dry leaves in school groups tomorrow, but I bagged them from in front of the school with a little help from my friends.

OK, maybe a crazed composter/ mulcher. I did use the first 10 bags worth myself, but there's a limit of how big a compost pile I'm willing to deal with....

(So far, est. is about 30 bags of leaves, and after yesterday's wind blew my neighbor's oak leaves my way, more to come...)
