Odd nerve pain & clipping in/hamstrings

Apparently my legs do something kind of odd. At PT this week we determined that when my legs are in certain position that I get calf tension/pain - even though the calve muscles are not activated. He called it neuro....something. What is that called? Just wanted to look it up and I can't remember what he said. Even wilder is a part of one foot goes numb when my leg is in a certain position - but that foot has been taken apart and put back together so one must expect a few oddities.

Everything is feeling better - not even the pulled hamstring is complaining outside of an occasional mild ache or showing signs of inflammation. Even the back of my knee isn't complaining much..and I can't say that the poor leg is getting much rest with all of my moving activities. I can return to lower body weight lifting next week (no deadlifts) and he is considering allowing me to start working my way back on the spinning bike next week (gently). We will see...

If he should allow me to start getting back on my bike next week, I am thinking it might be best to not clip in right away. I have the idea that clipping in activates the hamstring far more than not - but is this correct? Yes, I am being optimistic, but he didn't rule it out

Answering my own question - it is called "neurotension" and he gave me an exercise to address it. I could actually feel my leg loosening up as I did it

I have been given the go-ahead to do very light spinning with little resistance in spin class, and orders to put it off another week if it hurts at all. 1-2 more weeks before I can ride my actual bike. I think I will hold off on clipping in for a few weeks so my hamstring doesn't have to work so much.

I think that sounds like a good plan. My gut instinct is maybe you went into clipless too soon. You have your whole life to accomplish your goals, you don't have to do it all in the first year.

My leg problem started the week before I went clipless. I do not think that going clipless caused it the strained hamstring nor the tendinitis, but I do think that it aggravated it. It certainly will be a good test next week when I return to very light spinning in class without clipping in...

Got cleared to go to spinning class tonight as long as I didn't clip in and used very low resistance....and it went fine My heart rate didn't break 100, but that wasn't the point of the experiment. No pain last night, outside of a very minor ache in the strained hammie that went away very quickly, and no stiffness/pain this morning in quads or tendons (or anywhere). I am a happy woman.

I am hoping my PT will clear a short, easy ride this weekend, but time will tell. I did not clip in at class, and kept the straps on the toe cages quite loose to keep from engaging the hamstring as much as possible.
