I wanted to do a 50 mile out-and-back today, but DH prefers loops. I downloaded a new route off of mapmyride for Alton, IL and went for it. We had a blast, however:

We missed a turn, adding a mile and two extra hills

Had to carry our bikes across a stream (DH ripped a cleat loose, but didn't notice until we finished)

Saw my husband stop going up a hill--first time, ever! (it was gravel and he claims he saw 30% grade before he stopped. He couldn't stand because his back tire was slipping). I walked the whole thing, laughing.

Chased by two packs of dogs and I got nipped by the smallest dog! First time I've been nipped, ever!

Carried our bikes across some railroad tracks where the road was closed.

Missed another turn, adding another mile.

Felt pretty good, considering my last long ride was only 40. Little Rock Metric should be a piece of cake after that.

Trek, sounds like you had a rather adventurous ride. Don't you just love those little dogs that make you feel like a chicken nugget on wheels?

64 miles in hilly Iowa county, WI, as part of the Wright Stuff Century ride. Posted pictures in another thread. I'm sore today.
