    Registration-TE member

Someone pointed out to me of the registration process to join TE forums.

Looks like one more step or so. ie. guessing the validation word. Looks like a different process than a few yrs. ago. It's a slight put-off for those new members who may not yet know all the part of their bike. I realize there is a security issue.

Or am I being too dunce-like?

If I remember correctly, mine was a picture of some bike part and it asked me for correct identification.

Lots of new bike riders would not know the answer word 'stem'. Seems like that would keep a lot of them out.
On my online community, I just asked "What color is grass?"....keeps out a lot of auto-spammers.

I googled it only because at that moment I just could not remember the word in English. I don't think there is anything wrong with the question. I think who does not know how to google and how to get basic answers, should not be on board anyway. We don't want thousands of new threads with very common questions which could be answered by 5 min on google.

The level of the question insures not only some connections to cycling but also some level of internet 'IQ'.

I also think that questioning security and administrators decision is not our place. Let's remember that this is not our forum, we are only guests here and the decision should be let to those who are in charge.

I think I'd get that wrong. At my house, it's brown.

I wholly disagree with the sentiment expressed above. I love Google and the search function as much as the next person, but I see no reason for TE to expect a certain level of knowledge about cycling or the Internet in order to join the forum. I'd note, too, that you don't need to be a cyclist to join. Yes, it's the emphasis, but we also discuss other sports, along with health and nutrition.

As for the our adminstrators Yes, it is their forum, but Susan and Jeff have always welcomed our feedback. It might surprise them to know that the security question is too hard or obscure for new riders or nonriders.

I've been around too long to have experienced this.

One way another forum that I belong to does it is that they limit forum access until you have five posts. You can access about 1/4 of the discussion until you have a minimal posting history and then it goes to full access. This other board is a little different in that they do not allow men, period, ever and this helps to ensure that none sneak through the system.

I remember this, and just googled it though I was pretty sure of the answer. It makes sense that they want to have something in place to prevent spam - and we do not know what problem they may have with it anyway.
