Selle An-atomica Titanico

So, I'd decided I needed a new saddle and although the previous one had been merely ok for most rides, it did start getting pretty uncomfortable after 60-75 miles. STP? Ouchie! I've been avoiding getting back on the bike after STP just because the mere thought of putting crotch to seat was so unpleasant. I thought i'd try the Selle anatomica because of comments made about it here on TE. I got it yesterday, and had some pangs of regret because, frankly, it doesn't look like there's much to it (especially given the price), and it really doesn't look like it will support my weight for a trip around the block, much less for a century +. Well, long story short, I put in on the bike this morning and tweaked a bit, and, at this point, it is the most comfortable thing I've ever put my tooshie on. it really is like riding on a feather. I am stunned. I can tell I will probably have to dial it in a tiny bit further on a longer ride, but i just can't believe it! Is it really going to support my weight? I did specify the "clydesdale" version, but this is almost seeming like something in the realms of magic. is this thing really going to hold up?

I have no experience with the Selle An-Atomica...but I seriously considered it and after reading your post, now wish I had given it a try. I too, have been dealing with some difficult saddle issues. I came very close to ordering a Titanico LD, a few weeks back. I love that it comes in various colors (I wanted the white w/black rivets). I viewed the demo video on their site that has a camera angle just below the saddle...where you can actually observe the saddle conforming to the rider's butt with each pedal stroke...very interesting! I hemmed and hawed over it, and ultimately ended up trying a different saddle (a Specialized Toupe 155) which seems to be working fairly well for me. But I still wonder how much better that SA-A Titanico LD would feel. Given their 30-day return policy, I suppose it couldn't hurt me to order one and try it out.

So...it honestly felt THAT GOOD, huh? You didn't get any pinching from the cut-out? I ask only because I keep hearing some folks say that the cut-out on that saddle looks like it would be a "pincher", yet I've never actually heard anyone voice that complaint. As far as the saddle "holding up" for you...I think that is what the tensioning bolt is for. When it starts to get too soft, a few turns on the bolt is supposed to tighten things up again. Now how long exactly, before you run out of tightening room on that tensioning bolt...is the $64k question.

I don't know your weight (and not asking). In effect, I ride a clydesdale Selle Anatomica--it started as a Brooks B68 and was reinforced by Selle Anatomic and the slot cut into it.

While I've lost a bit of weight now, I have tipped the scales at 175-180. My saddle is holding up fine.

That said, after a while I started to get a little sagging and the slot overlapping after a while, but not enough to justify tweaking the main bolt tension. Instead, a couple of holes drilled into the side and some lacing firmed the saddle back up again. No issues.

I thought the cut out would be pinchey too, but I didn't feel it at all. But I've only taken it around the block a couple of times so far. I'll go for a longer ride this afternoon and see if it still feels as good.

Yes, I ordered it on line from the factory. Customer service left something to be desired, but all's well that ends well.

my husband has put over 10,000 miles on one of his. Unless it's a defective saddle (this is possible, it's leather) you should be happy with that saddle for a long time.

I'm so glad they're still in biz. I bought a spare just in case they didn't continue after Tom Milton passed away. I've had them on my bikes for 3 years, and they show no sign of wearing out any time soon, but I thought, stuff happens. I'd be so sad if I couldn't replace it.
