I did a mtn bike ride with my bike buddy yesterday, we were so excited b/c we had forgotten how much fun it was to ride the mtn bikes, then we started up the mtn! my 40lb bike was at least 100 by the time we finally made it to the top, I spent my money on a road bike so I was riding an ancient but decent Free Spirit, we started back down on the singletrack my friend kept saying she was scared - mtn going up on the left and waayyy down on the right, she started falling down the bike went over her and hit her in the head - thank goodness for helmets - and two trees stopped them both. She was able to climb up, I went down and got her bike back up, she was pretty bruised up on her legs but nothing bad, THEN we started back down the mountian the same way we came up and she flipped over the handlebars!!! I have no idea what happened I just remember the handlebars turned and she went over and the bike flipped! she hurt her little finger and had lots of rock rash
She is ok but will be sore for a few days.
We tease each other and say all of our rides are adventures b/c something always happens, locked keys in the car, flats, chain breaks, etc. but this ride was dubbed our Wild ride, this lady I ride with is almost 58!!!! and has been riding for many years, she was on an aluminum mtn bike and said it felt funny, it was her bike, but when she got scared she lost it. She could have ended up waayyyyy down that mtn had the trees not stopped her!
My new desire is to have a lighter mtn bike, steel not aluminumand to not crash. I had forgotten how much fun it was to ride the trails, plus she showed me a world of mtn bike trails I never knew about - and they are horse trails too, my horse will have shoes soon so we can go riding there too!
We rode for 4 hours yesterday! my legs are sore today, that doesn't happen often. I figure that heavy bike could do nothing but make me stronger!
