    Cool Finally, I'm back.

After a couple of years of life and health getting in the way and not much riding, we are back in the saddle again and it feels GREAT!!! I considered selling my bike at one time but held on to the hope that I'd get back to riding. I'm so glad to be back in the groove.

My bike computer has just about given up the ghost. It works sometimes and sometimes not.

Instead of getting another bike computer I was considering a Garmin Forerunner. I knew it didn't have a bike speed sensor, but I discovered it didn't have a heart rate monitor either.

I'd like a GPS watch that measures distance, time, heart rate, etc. Any ideas?

    Thanks!!!

Welcome back! That's why you should never sell your bike. You never know when the desire to ride will come back.

For your computer question, I recommend going without one. It's very liberating. The computer ruined many perfect rides for me. Life's better without.

Welcome Back! I had wondered how you were

The Garmin Oregon series is compatible with a HR monitor, IIRC.

I have the 310XT (a watch). It comes with a HR monitor, and will pair with a speed/cadence sensor. You can download your data and see maps/elevation/etc. The only drawbacks are: 1) no onboard mapping and 2) no barometric altimeter. Look at the Edge 705 if you want those. The Edge 500 is a bike only computer from Garmin - HR Monitor, Barometric altimeter, temp sensor, but only very basic mapping (bread crumb trail).

The Forerunner 305 is compatible with a HR monitor and cadence speed sensor and can be had for a bit less than the 310XT (but it has the same drawbacks, and it's not as waterproof - I also didn't like it on my arm).

ETA: lots of really good reviews at dcrainmaker.com (no connection, other than sinking a LOT of time into reading his blog).

welcome back Sandra. I like having a bike computer because I can challenge myself better. I tend to just mosey along - one look at the bike computer and I'm going 2-3 mph faster!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, I like having a bike computer because I like to have a goal. I'm trying to go a little faster, a little further and increase my time too so having some type of measurement helps.

When I'm knocking about on my mixte is the time for not worrying about speed or distance.

(of course I'm also one of those that can't throw away my scales and I weigh every day too. )
