Camelbak and plastic taste

Is there a quick way of getting the plastic taste out of the Camelbak? Granted, one doesn't use it for the taste, but it would be easier to take that way...

Is it new? Both of my packs are 4 or 5 years old and there is no plastic taste. I don't remember how long it took for it to wear off...

I clean them with the dental effervescent tablets and store them in the freezer as it's so humid here it's impossible to get them to completely dry out and I'm afraid mold will start to grow in them.

I was afraid to run anything through mine other than water, so I just filled it, let the water sit, then emptied it - it helped a lot, the first time was the worst. I also try not to let it sit with water in it (or empty the water before filling it).

Just rinse it a lot - and the tube if it's new.

If the water has been sitting for any reason, I spit out the first mouthful. I also fill it up fresh before every use (which usually doesn't require spitting out the first mouthful)

I don't usually taste plastic (unless it's been sitting for a week or so)

Thanks for the tips on this, I have a brand new Camelbak that I am using for the first time this week - perhaps today. I tried it on the other day to adjust the straps and to get an idea what it felt like and out some water in it....icky taste, but I expected that at first because of the plastic.

I think baking soda helps almost anything.

I would put some baking soda and water in it, open the bite valve to fill the drink tube with the solution, and let it sit overnight, then rinse it out.

Great suggestion on the baking soda; it definitely works! Another suggestion is that you could add a lime to youtr water and that willl help with the taste as well.

For cleaning it, there are lots of kits out there but the one that my customers seem to recommend the most is denture cleaning tablets. Just add them to your bladder and it will take care of everything and all you do is rinse and run water back through it.

Thanks - I will try the baking soda tonight, and today try putting in a smaller water bottle in my jersey pocket to make sure I've enough water
