If it weren't for bad luck I'd have none at all...

Tomorrow is my first duathlon ever (5k run, 30k bike, 5k run). The weather forecast is as follows:
Sunday: Rain. Steady temperature around 54. Breezy, with a east northeast wind between 17 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

What really stinks about this is that we've had an unseasonably warm and sunny Spring...so Mother Nature thinks it's funny to have things do a 180 TOMORROW! She is evil! I've never ridden my bike in the rain...so I get to do it for the first time while trying to go "fast"...great.

sounds like you need a little GOOD LUCK, Kirsten!
Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, and do whatever you want all the time, you could miss it.

Just think of the bragging rights and great race report you'll have....

Heh, yep. Plus it's an automatic PR, so if I totally bomb I will have a super easy time to beat next year.

    Excellent strategic thinking!

Have fun, zoomzoom! I bet you will.

Maybe your race will be during the 20% of time/location when/where it's not raining. I guess the advantage of a triathlon is that since you get out of the water, you don't notice the rain - until you brake or turn. Rain and wind? Ugh.

Be safe and have fun! Like you said, it'll be a PR no matter what.

Sounds like you have the right attitude. Just go out there and have a great time.
My first ever multisport event (a du) was in the freezing rain. I'd never ridden in rain either, and it was awful, but incredible fun. Even though I finished almost dead last, I had a BLAST! I finished with a smile on my face and had some great stories to tell later on.
The fast people who were already done and changed into dry clothes patted me on the back and congratulated me (saying: I can't believe you were out there that long- it was brutal).

You'll do great!! Oh, and report back when you're all done (and we expect wet, rainy pictures, you know).

Thanks, ladies...I will definitely have pics! I may look like a drowned rat, but I'm sure I will be a grinning drowned rat.

These are the days that champions are made!!! The days when everyone else is afraid of bad weather.

You can totally do this. Imagine the stories that you will have. Be careful and have fun!!!!!!

Ha, I once placed 1st in my age group in a Winter trail 5k...I was the only one in my AG who showed! I've already been thinking that it could be a good day for me if a few faster gals didn't show.

I did--and had an absolute blast, even though the weather was horrid! It was cold, rainy, and VERY windy. I managed a 2:14:04 for the entire race, IIRC.

I am still waiting for the official times to be posted (seriously, people, what's taking so long) to write up my race report, but I do know that I had a 5k PR for the first leg (seriously...a 5k PR as part of a much bigger race. Apparently I need to find a 5k in the next couple of months to really "see what this baby can do!") and placed 5/9 in my AG, even though my transitions were pokey (I did my best to be methodical and not screw anything up, rather than rush around and do something stupid, like forget to put on my helmet, which is an auto DQ).

Next up is a 25k race on 5/8. Last time I ran this was 2 years ago with poorly controlled asthma and bad allergies. This Spring I'm handling the usual allergy/asthma season MUCH better, so I'm hoping to really crush my PR from that race, too.
