I am SO excited. Dh just surprised me and got me a Cannondale Super Six frame ... AND SRAM Red shifters and derailers. He took everything off my old bike and switched it over to the new frame.
I have been coveting this frame for some time. He went and crashed last August and got a "questionable dent" in his System Six (not to be confused with Super Six), which meant it might not have been safe to continue riding. So he decided "had" to get a Super Six for himself, which luckily was on sale for an awesome deal at our LBS. I was so not happy about this. Couldn't really afford it at the time, so there was no hope of me getting one. Plus, at that time I was feeling kind of low about my own cycling ability, one of the reasons I wanted the lighter frame. So when the LBS owner showed up with his new Super Six, all put together, it was not a good day ... or week ... or month.
Anyway, I got over it ... sort of... and have been waiting for it to be my turn, making it very clear that I WILL have a turn.
So last night he surprised me. He was at a friends house where they were supposedly taking our bikes apart, cleaning them really well and putting them back together. I was in bed when he came home. He wiggles my foot and I pull the pillow off my head to the bright light in the room. I was very confused and disoriented. I'm whimpering about the bright light when I realize he's standing there with a huge smile on his face holding my new bike in the air.
I just went for my first spin on her. The new shifters take some getting used to. They don't work the way my Dura-Ace did, but I'm sure I'll come to love them. It was windy and cold, so not the best way to try out a new bike. But I love how smooth it feels to ride. I had a Cannondale CAAD9 before, aluminum frame. Definitely feels the road. So this is one of the things I was looking forward to. Plus I lost a pound and a half on my bike. My CAAD9 was 16.9 lbs. with bottle cages. He still has to put handlebar tape and the cadence sensor, but it's looking like it will be about 15.3, possibly less if he puts different tires on.
Anyway ... I'm on cloud nine. I'm already working on how I can add some cool pink graphics to the frame. It's the exact frame dh has, so I want to change it up just a little. Plus I'm all about pink and think it would be cool to be custom. But I also don't want to add any weight, cause I'm a weight weeny! Ha ha!!
Yay for new bikes!!!!!!!!!!
