    Comfort...especially in the seat...

Once upon a time I thought I knew something about biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping...all the outdoor stuff...but apparently in the couple of years that I've been inactive I've either lost it or it's all changed because I don't even understand the terms used in all of the 'Getting Started' articles I've been reading lately, trying to make a plan for getting back out there this summer!

I think it's because the info I'm looking for has changed - I'm significantly heavier and weaker than I was before I had my now almost two year old. I want to know how to help this body be comfortable while I get back out there. The articles say the first thing to do is to find a better seat - yes! That makes sense since the few times I tried it last year I felt like my tailbone was going to split in half...but I need more info - what makes a better seat for a big butt like this? I would be so appreciative of any links or specific advice about getting started...again. The articles all seemed to be geared towards athletes, which I was once but it's sure not a category I can put myself in now.

Now I don't care about going fast or climbing mountains...but we do have beautiful, paved trails where we lived and I'll be spending most of this summer out in the state parks researching an art project I'm starting...so I want to be comfortable potentially riding almost all day, lots of days. I also finally got a trailer to throw the toddler in, plus the bigger kids and husband finally got bikes, so we can all go together.

The seat is the main thing I'm wondering about right now, but I'd love any advice or recommendations at all for my situation.

And it's really nice to meet you all - there is a lot of great info in this place...I just wish I knew enough of the terms, etc, to understand it!

    Welcome!

Have you read the threads about saddle fitting? If there are terms you need better defined, ask!

See - I've been looking up 'seats'...I'd have never thought to call it a 'saddle'...

Although, when I do a search for 'saddle-fitting' I find a lot of posts like mine with people referring them to the thread on saddle-fitting...but not a thread actually telling you how...any idea what I'm doing wrong?
