    I went luging today

I am lucky to live just a few short miles from a luge run. I took a "Learn to Luge" class this morning. It was a little scary after the tragedy that happened in Vancouver. But I'm glad I went ahead and took the class.

It was so much fun! I felt like I had very little control over the sled. You're supposed to use pressure from your shoulders to turn the sled, but I felt like I was at the mercy of the course.

A couple of my runs I felt like a pinball, bouncing back and forth against the walls But after that, I somehow managed to have some really smooth runs.

By the end of the run, I was FLYING. The instructor's said we'd get up to 30 to 35 mph. I couldn't sit up to stop the sled down at the finish and I'd crash into giant feather pillows. It was pretty cool.

At some point I must have hit my calf on something, but I don't recall when it could have happened. But it's very bruised and swollen.

I think I might join the a luging team next season. I'll have pictures I can post next week

    TOO COOL!!!!
We were just watching the luge at the Olympics, and I was saying I can't imagine traveling 90mph like they are. If you can't sit up at 35, I can't imagine what 90 would feel like. I would never want to be on a bike going that fast, let alone on a sled on a sheet of ice.

I can't wait to see the pictures!

We did the bobsled ride in Lake Placid during the SUMMER! That was scary enough. Even enclosed in a bobsled, I felt like a pinball. And I don't think we went 35!

One of the male lugers said he started because the line for bobsled was too long. You go girl

Lime, that is very cool! And we must be neighbors, since I live close to that very same luge track...I run in Muskegon State Park on a fairly regular basis during the less-snowy months. I still need to get my '10 park sticker.

Cool! I live up in Montague. Are you doing any running/cycling races this year? I'm currently training for the Steelcase Grand Duathlon and 5/3 25k...then a bunch of stuff after that.

    zoom-zoom:

I've always wanted to do the Steelcase Duathlon. That sounds fun.

Right now I'm training for 5/3 RBR. I'm hoping to do Kent City Ridge Run, but I'm really busy right around then. I'm also doing "The Ride" at the Lakes Mall in March.

My big races I'm hoping to do are Ore 2 Shore and Iceman Cometh, both mountain bike races.

Mountain Biking and Adventure Racing are my main focus for this year. I'm trying to not get distracted from that.

I can see myself doing the Coast Guard 10k, Northside Summer Spectacular 5k, and I'll probably do the Hoffmaster Train Run in November.

Coast Guard is a race I did twice and vowed to never do again. I am a solid mid-packer and the last time I did it they had no food or water left at the finish...and it was already well into the 80s by that point. I had to spend extra to buy a bottle of water from their vending machine at the Y.

Kent City Ridge run is one of my favorites...this year will be my 3rd time doing it. LOVE it! I love the Hoffmaster trail race, too. That's usually my season ender and a nice way to end race season.

What is the Ride at the Lakes Mall? I have not heard of this.
