Nice! I have a Surly and love it. In my case, I whistled and it came to me. Enjoy your new ride.

I definitely wasn't whistling; grousing about still being banged up from a crash 3 weeks ago maybe, but certainly not whistling.
Sweet! Do we get close-ups?
What in the world is that front tire?!

I'm so envious. Been wanting a Cross-Check, then finally took a good look at the geometry and realized it's not for me *sigh*
That front tire is tons of fun. Congrats and enjoy!
"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."

Random babblings and some stuff to look at.
Cool bike! My Surly is giving me fits right now - having trouble getting a seatpost that's far enough set back. Anyone know of a non-carbon seatpost with 35mm of setback?
The front tire is the Panaracer Speedblend that used to be carried by Rivendell. They can be seen here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/quickbeam/index.html

I have a Surly and I like yours!
I love my Surly, too! I ride her to work three to four times a week. Enjoy your new ride!! They do just kind of sneak up and nab your heart!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Cycle! It's Good for the Wattle; it's good for the can!
I took more pictures yesterday afternoon, but then I watched the last stage of the Vuelta and then was sucked into the solving crimes with the SVU marathon so I didn't get them posted.
Stay tuned for a picture of the pretty wheel spinning!
Re. crash: My big ugly bruises are all better, but my ribs still hurt, and sometimes I'm still having a little shortness of breath (like when I ride for more than 15 minutes). I needed a new handlebar and bottom bracket, so that crash was harder on the bike than on me. Well, I might have needed a new bottom bracket anyway.
As previously noted, the front tire is a Speedblend made by Panaracer. We got two of them at an LBS after seeing them on rivbike. I spent some time looking for them this morning, but they appear to have gone the way of the dodo. If anyone knows where one might pick up a couple more, let me know.
Now to the pics (malkin took them with her new camera). Here is the label--note that it's on the tread rather than on the sidewall so as to not mess with the cool colors.
And here's the tire with its spin on. It really does look just like that going down the street.
Cheers!
PS Malkin's fall created a severe interruption of her riding schedule, but she didn't break any bones or mush any grey matter. She did a great job of rolling over the bars in such a way as to protect her head (palpable hit rather than a brain-scrambling smack) and take the blow on soft tissue (fabulous bruises!).
The cheap aluminum bar on the Giant was toast--bent so it wouldn't hold a bar-end and impossible to straighten without breaking. We replaced that with a Ritchey Severe Conditions bar (it can double as a weapon against grizzly bears and great white sharks). The bottom bracket replacement was incidental.
I also bought her a new helmet (Specialized Propero), which was much better received than the silly bath robe I bought her from Victoria's Secret in our early days together.
Cheers again!
