Hi everyone,
I need another bike and don't know what to get! I bought my MTB (a WSD Jamis Durango) last spring and I love it. I take it on the trails fairly often... or at least I did before I moved a few weeks ago. Now I'm living near a park with a great bike path and I'm less than 2 miles from work, so I'm in great shape to commute regularly. However, I don't want to leave my MTB locked up on a college campus all day, nor do I want to put a rack on it and change out the quick releases, since I do take it on trails.
So what I need is a commuter, but what I would really like is something a little nicer (um, faster) that I can use to try out some distance rides in the future. Is there a bike that would be a good compromise, or should I consider 2 (more???) bikes?
I've been looking on Craigslist and for deals in bike shops on a cheap commuter, but can't find much (I'm in St Louis if anyone has suggestions). So I was thinking of the new 2010 Specialized Vienna as a potential commuter since I want something that's not too upright. That's already $400, though something like the Vita would probably suite my needs better, but costs too much to leave it out on campus all the time (but the Vienna isn't exactly cheap either).
Are there really cheap options that I should be looking at? Or should I get something like the Vita, or maybe the Jamis Coda, and just take my chances? Then there's the whole issue of buying now ot waiting for the 2010's... specialized released theirs, but I haven't seen anything from Jamis or Bianchi yet about their commuter options. Thoughts?

So I can also vouch for finding a satisfactory, dedicated commuter on Craigslist--it did take weeks of watching the listings, though, before I found the one that made me happy.
