This is a new plate, thanks to WABA. I said I'd never pay extra $ for a specialty license plate, but I caved.

You had to send in the paperwork to WABA and they held it till they got 25. I waited until my registration renewal came, since it was due within a few weeks, then sent the application to WABA, so I am kind of surprised I got such a low number.

I called, and they're going to e-mail me whether you have to be a member (when the guy running the program gets into the office), but the guy I talked to didn't think so.

I had just renewed mine when this one came, and it's not a problem to replace it. All you have to do is return the old tag to the DMV, which of course presents its own set of hassles.

    Very cool.

And if I saw that low-number plate out on the road I would automatically assume some official or dignitary was driving.

Ha! I can't imagine there are too many dignitaries who would drive a 10-year-old station wagon with bike and kayak racks on it, but I puffed up my chest just a bit when I read your comment!

You do have to be a WABA member. Here's the scoop.

Edit: I can't get the embedded web link to work on my computer. If the link above doesn't work, here it is: http://www.waba.org/areabiking/MDPlates.php

    Very cool.

However, if youare ever driving drunk or erratically, everyone will definitely remember your license plate number so that they can call the police on you.

I cheaped out when it turned out you had to be a member. That just seemed lame.
