    Unhappy Another NewB

    Hello

I am another newb trying to get everything figured out. I have just gotten into biking even though my husband has been an avid mtb rider for years. After watching and supporting him at bike races we finally decide to purchase me a bike. I bought a Giant Arete Mtb (even though I'm only riding the greenways for now).
I love my bike, it rides awesome (minus sit pain) and I so want to ride it everyday. I've only gotten to ride it 2 times due to all the rain Atlanta was having, so I am still uncomfortable riding. I have fallen twice (yes on paved greenways) and I feel like such an idiot!!

How long does it take to be comfortable, not fall all the dang time, and not be so wabbly feeling? It's so frustrating riding with my husband, I can keep up with him pretty good but watching him ride one handed or no hands and taking curves so easy is killing me. I barley move my hands and the handlebars wobble.

    Thanks for the help,
    Lisa

I'm used to knobby tires for many years, then transferring to a road bike made me feel a little "off" for the first couple days, but you get used to it fast. :-)

The soreness gets better over time. Make sure that everything has been fitted properly, that's the important thing, from saddles, handlebars height and angle, angle of the saddle, etc etc. Some soreness *is* expected, but persistent pain (esp girly parts), is not. It took me a good 1 1/2 weeks for everything to settle in just right. Everyone's different.

After you get more comfortable in your bike, you will be more comfortable doing little tricks (one handed, no hands, hairpin turns, jumping over potholes/manholes, etc).

    Good luck!

Thank you, it makes me feel better to see that someone else has felt the way I do. My bike was fitted by the lbs, so I think it's just me getting used to it. I love it already and want to be good at so I can ride more! I know I will get used to the seat pain, I just hope to get rid of the wobbles soon.

some of us never get to the point where we ride with no hands. EVER.
but get some miles under your belt and you will quickly improve!
