Thought I'd toss this out for anyone who's looking for a challenge this weekend. The annual Mountain Mama road ride will be held this coming Saturday, August 1 in Monterey, VA, near the border between VA and WVA. Rides range from a rolling 27 miles through Bluegrass Valley to a 105-mile route that includes more than 13,000 feet of climbing. Gorgeous scenery and a great workout to boot!

On the Mountain Mama ride on Saturday I spotted somebody in the crowd wearing a TE "She Loves Hills...." jersey! I never saw her again after the first five minutes of the ride, so never had a chance to find out who it was.
My ambitious BF tackled the 100-mile route (including 13,000 feet of climbing, ack!) while I opted for a shorter rolling route through gorgeous Bluegrass Valley. I added some mileage by doubling back on part of the route and ended up with 43 miles.
Zen, you're right, it WAS one hot mama, but fortunately I was done and off my bike just as serious heat kicked in.
Great ride, great event! I'm attaching a few pictures of Bluegrass Valley, near Monterey, VA. Mighty perty scenery!
