New Toy! Polar RS 300X G1

I just ordered the GPS capable Polar RS 300X G1 for my biking, running, hiking and whatever else I want to monitor. With sales tax it came to 270 bucks, but I think it will be well worth it and it cost a few arms and legs less than some of the snappier Polar and Garmin models. I'm looking forward to seeing elevation gain on my bike rides, a precise distance and heck yeah-- calories burned!

I'll be picking it up from the running store next week, I can't wait to set it up and try it out!

I wanted to a HR monitor because I feel like I'm always overtraining on my runs. It always seems to max out my heart rate-- but I want to run!

Anyway, once I get it, I will let you know how awesome (or meh, or not awesome) it is

well, it arrived but I didn't realize until I was playing with it later that they ordered me the wrong version! Instead of giving me the GPS version (the G1) they gave me the one with a foot pod, the RS 300 X SD

I will have to go by the store tomorrow to straighten things out.

I'm just disappointed I'll have to wait another week or so to get in the RIGHT order.

Does it have an altimeter in it, or is this information from the GPS? This looks like a nice heart rate monitor.

I'm not sure yet, but I'm sure it's not an altimeter. I didn't opt for one of the higher end GPS units... those things can be several hundreds of dollars!

But even if I don't get exact elevation gain, I'll be all right I think

The store is doing a straight exchange and I'll pick it up as soon as it gets in!

Yes, the cost is a problem - clearly something with an altimeter that is small and looks ok and does everything else would be great but I'm not prepared to spend huge amounts of money on it.
I'm torn between the polar and a suunto at the moment.

If I get mine in soon, I'll let you know how it is. I know the GPS is worn on an arm band and you can get bike bar mounts for the watch thingy. I might try to find something like that today at the LBS.

    Plus, it's orange

    It's here! It's here!

I can already tell you how much I love it, although I haven't trained with it yet.

I did my HR VO2 max test and it told me I have Elite Fitness for my age group. Huzzah!

Currently my monitor is telling my % heartrate and current speed (0 mph).

I'm going to take it to the stairs at the Gateway Arch once it cools off a little more for it's maiden workout.
