    Rides/routes around Ocean City?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm going to the beach for 4 days with family. I'm not a beach person, the whole sitting in the sand sunbathing while reading a book just doesn't work. I suck at it. Playing in the waves - fun if I have my kayak, otherwise, meh. Fun for an hour or so, but not 4 days worth fun.

I think I can get away with bringing my bike & going for rides for a few hours - anyone have any suggested routes? I could see it being nice around Rehobeth or Dewey to ride, but I don't remember the roads being anything more than cluttered beach traffic around Ocean city.

Maybe I'll go to the library this evening and get some books.

If you head north to Rehoboth or Dewey, head west too. (Actually, the same is probably true of OC.) The areas around Route 1 are terrible for traffic, and even the secondary roads are getting more and more crowded. I was in Millsboro today for work, and couldn't believe the volume on secondary roads taht I used to ride when I lived in Lewes.

Let me dwell on this some more, and maybe I can come up with a better response. Or maybe Withm will have some ideas.

Thanks Becky, maybe I'll just leave the bike at home and embrace doing nothing.

No, I think that you should take the bike. Just ride early, ride inland, and be aware of traffic.

On the other hand, I think Zen's idea idea is a good one too

Drinking would definitely while away the time!

Waking up early... that's a whole different problem! I haven't completed my revolution yet.

I'll google around and see if I can find some bike routes around there.

    Bethany rides

    http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sussexcyclists/

Look at the "files" section - there are a few cue sheets for rides around Bethany, and Rehoboth areas.

also look at our other site
    http://home.att.net/~sussexcyclists/cuesheetlist.html

    for a few more rides.

Perusing the Yahoo group site messages will list the rides for the next few days.

You may have to "JOIN" the Yahoo group to get to the messages, or to the files. Just follow the instructions, but do it quickly ... I am the moderator of the yahoo group, and will be without computer access until Thursday evening.

I'm booked for the w/e already, otherwise would be happy to hook you up with someone.

We stay around 97th street in OC, and I usually ride north up 1. I really enjoy the ride, usually go to Rehoboth and back. I've explored inland, but a little unsure of good routes. Would love to find a club ride, I'll check out the link as well.

Nice thing about riding up the coast, I swap days with my wife. I ride, she walks the beach early as the kids sleep in. I like early rides because traffic is light and there are lots of other cyclist on the road.

We go almost every year - love OC.

    Thanks Mr sr500,

Wow... you come from Indiana every year to go to Ocean City?

I think being so close to it, I've never really appreciated it. But, my parents used to always take us on vacations to either Florida or Alabama when young... And... I like bathtub warm water at my beaches now. I don't really appreciate this cold atlantic thing.

I do really like exploring the un-touristy sections of the coast with my kayak - the barrier islands, cape henlopen, or Assateague... I'm anti-social

    Yes.
We can tell by that rapidly growing post count!

BTW...no insight into riding around OC, other than the usual "Google it."
