mmmm....just some pictures from an epic ride yesterday! We started out in Aptos, climbed up old Mt. Madonna road to summit road, climbed that all the way up the backbone, did an out and back to the big flat peak- Loma Prieta, dropped down the Rattlesnake single track, climbed over Santa Rosalita mountain, and down through Nisene Marks! The ride ended up being about 5 1/2 hours, 55 miles, over 7500 feet of climbing. What a day!

View of the peak. See the roadcut going up on the left side?

What a cool looking ride. I think that needs to go onto our "to do" list.

awesome. I've never actually heard of anyone outside my group of riding friends who's been up there. I can see why, it's hot and steep, but it's SO beautiful when you get up there. Definitely check out Mt. Madona, It's the most beautiful road in Santa Cruz by far.

wow those are great pics... I love the views from the top of big climbs... that and the ride back down make 'em worthwhile! That was some serious climbing from that profile way to go!!! you're smiling in the pic at the top so it must've been good...

When Blaine was still training back in '96 he used to ride from Saratoga out to someplace called Eureka Canyon... says that's another epic ride... lots of climbing and incredible scenery. The last time we went to the beach he rode from our house to Watsonville over Mt. Madonna... the road for cars is scary to me, but he enjoyed it.

Eureka Canyon is a nice climb, I do that one often. You can get to Loma from the top of the canyon, a road called Ormsby Cutoff I think goes up to summit. As for Mt. Madonna, the old road is better to climb up(than the new road) because there are very few cars(and it's like 10x more beautiful). I'll climb up the new road on the backside to make a figure 8 though. Yay for Loma!
