    Melalvai's epic cycling adventure

    Well, I've been watching (Melalvai) Rachel's blog and things seem to be going okay, even though not always as planned! She's on her way back. She hasn't mentioned a lot about rain, only once and believe me, it's been nonstop rain here in Missouri! We are finally getting a break this weekend. I love the part about the "easiest 82 miles she has ridden!" She is such an inspiration!

    I've been following it, too. I know she can't update on the road, but I'm eager to hear more detailed accounts of her adventure. Hopefully she kept a journal and can fill us in when she returns. I'm envious of her ambition and adventurous spirit. I was worried when she said that she didn't want to ride the return trip home, but got excited when she got on her bike and headed home. I can't wait for her to get back.

    I worried about the return home too. She sounded so discouraged, but then next thing I know, Return trip Day 1 appears. Wow! I was so happy for her!

    I hadn't seen any of this, but went over to read after reading your posts. I had to laugh at her wondering on one post if she'd get home in time to check on her rats. As a former bench-scientist who spent years worrying about my rats, that just made me chuckle, and more than a little nostalgic.

    I can do ANYTHING!

    I survived!!!

    In retrospect that is a funny line, "the easiest 82 miles I've ever ridden", but at the time it was just so true!

    I kept a journal and will start posting it on the blog as I find time. I estimate it'll take about 2 months to cover the 11 days--about how long it felt like!

    Thanks for all the support! There were a lot of really difficult times but two days ago I was already saying "Wow, I can do ANYTHING."

    It's a good thing I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I would never have done it! And I admit I don't expect to do anything quite like this again. I'm thinking it might be fun to do something with MUCH lower daily mileage, and with company.

    I'm not sorry I did it. I really do believe "I can do anything"!

    Well I still say that about getting my PhD.

    congrats, what a great accomplishment your ride was. I do think that if I ever did anything remotely like that, I would HAVE to have company.

    I'm really enjoying the updates and the pics. I know what you mean about becoming bored with the Katy trail. Keep the updates coming!
