    May 9 rides

I started out bright and early. did a little run up Lytle Creek Road (Lady in Toyota Sienna: Bicycles can do 40 mph and keep with you, as long as it's downhill) I was fighting some "recumbutt" but found my shorts had worked their way into my crack that could cause it!
Since the Photo thread on Bikejournal has degenerated into the Trainspotting thread, here's the Pacific Electric Station in Etiwanda:

Our pink jerseys have skyrocketed in popularity. ....must ....order ... one

I'm getting stronger, Think I surprised Steve? (didn't realized I was that close)

One of the Ladies I was riding needed to use the bathroom really bad. we were by my church and I thought that some one form the altar guild would be there. no luck. we had better success at a bagel shop.
Regrouped and continued on. Managed to reset my Bike computer at one of the regroups, but other than had a grand time!

45 beautiful miles in the rolling countryside in Rome... Georgia, that is I haven't ridden for two weeks, so it was tough getting started, but ok after I warmed up. The sky was overcast and the temp stayed right around 72 degrees F. We usually get chased by dogs out there in farm country, but they must have all been sleeping!

It was raining this morning, then my brother took me out for lunch, so I thought I was done after that Capresi sandwich. I only ate half at the restaurant, thought I'd eat the other half for dinner it made it 'til 3. At 4pm, I surprised myself by pumping up the tires. Before I knew it, I was at Brenton Pt.

The fog was amazing! The fog horns were blowing loudly out at the point. It's rocky out there, and dangerous for ships. Mist covered everything, even my sweater. I had to stop to wipe off my glasses. People were like ghosts out on the rocks. There were still kites flying, even though you could hardly see them in the white sky.

I was planning on just doing my shortest loop, but when I was at the turn, I went down the hill, and added another 9 miles. At the bottom of the hill, a carnival was in full swing in the beach parking lot. Kids were screaming on the rides, and I imagine it must have been even scarier with the fog smudging the line between sky, ocean and ground.

Tomorrow we're supposed to have 40 mph winds. Pretty sure I'll give my bikes a bath and not ride.

Not the greatest day to get out there, a bit cold, drizzly and foggy but I decided to go for a short ride anyway. Once I got out there I was feeling pretty good so decided to go on the longer 25 mile route. I was about ten miles from home and the crank arm and my left pedal came right flying off the bike as I was pedalling away. I managed to get myself off the road in one piece and called my husband. I didn't see a single person while I waited for him to come get me.

We took the bike right to the shop and they fixed it up while I waited. I rode home and my husband decided to pick up a growler of Maiboch on his way back home.
I also found out the my back brake was rubbing on the wheel which explains why I was working so hard. I thought it was the cold and the wind.

Bike is fixed, great beer, all is good

A leisurely Saturday coffee ride, turned into 30 miles! (Picasso's coffee shop in downtown St. Charles rocks! Coffee, smoothies, omelettes--not one empty table and a pile of bikes outside!) Found a new route off of our normal route--perfect start to the season.

Today was my first ride post-accident. It was nice to be on the bike, but my timidness was awful. I think b/c the driver had his blinker ON when he hit me, it's harder. Every intersection was nerve wracking. How do you get past this? I felt like I was a dangerous rider, and certainly had no business riding with a group with my abrupt stops, etc. Fortunately, today was just me and bike. I was a fairly strong rider, and I was so nervous today! I'll try again tomorow. On the positive, I don't appear to have lost any fitness, so that made me feel great.

TCTrek, I did the same ride today--45 miles on the Up the Creek Without a Pedal. This is the longest ride I've done since I started biking again about a year ago. It felt so good, despite the downpour about 3 miles from finish. Saw some really cool Thanksgiving-style turkeys (I think they weren't really impressed with bikers), saw a couple of really-big dead snakes in the middle of the road, and met some incredibly nice people. The dogs were well-behaved, as were the motorists in this part of GA. All in all, this was a really close-to-perfect ride for me. Lots of encouragement from experienced bikers, as well as from the community.

    Great Ride

43.10 miles with my hubby! Beautiful day and a perfect ride. Very hilly but hills are what I need! I have a big ride on June 20th and half of it is climbing. Over 10,000 feet over 128 miles along the north cascade highway.

On our ride yesterday we saw some mighty fine scenery plus we got to watch a bike race. As we were cruising along we noticed large groups of cyclists going by with cars before and after them with a sign on the lead car saying "Bike Race" We stopped to watch for a bit before continuing on. I took a few pictures.

Wow! Small world! Well done on your first ride! We saw those turkeys too... there was a pure white one with his feathers all puffed up.

This same ride last year was my first "road" ride. Prior to it, I had only ridden on the Silver Comet Trail, Alpharetta Greenway, etc. I did 45 miles last year, too, but walked up 2 or 3 of the bigger hills. This year, I made it up all the hills on my own steam :-) I have a photo from that ride (I was not clipping in at that time). It's amazng how much progress you can make in a year, even when you are over 50!!

I rode the Cap2Cap Century yesterday, but decided to turn around 36 miles in. It was just too hot and humid. All in all, not too bad though. 70 miles and my personal longest.

We called SAG for a kid who sprained an ankle and didn't have a phone so that was our good deed of the day.

56 beautiful miles and over 3000ft of elevation yesterday (Saturday).

I held off and held off hoping the skies would clear off enough to get a good'un in, and it did! Unfortunately that meant I took off at a relatively late hr...3pm!

I made a big newbie mistake of not taking enough fuel or stopping to eat something when I could. Boy did my legs pay for it about 6 miles from home... no bonk, but serious cramping issues goin on...

When I did get home, I hobbled up my back steps and quickly mixed up some Recoverite and took my ultram (for my chronic back pain) and I took an anti-inflammitory also. Those things combined with the next step - the idea of which I got from "Vireo" in a previous thread I started - really helped calm my leg pain down CONSIDERABLY within an hour! Two words: ROLLING PIN.

He had mentioned an item called "The Stick" in my other thread...but since I didn't have one and I was in such pain... I thought...what better use for my rolling pin?? LOL I never use it for baking anyway..why not? Holy cr*p..that thing works like magic! No kidding.

If anyone else has threded about this in the past, my apologies for bringing it up again, but man-o-man.. I think that was the magic "get out of pain" card trick! It redestributed that lactic acid around and took the pain away within 40-60min

ANyway - I wanted to ride again today, but alas... Mother's Day.. could not sneak away long enough.

I did the Cap2Cap, too, but not the century. I did 51 miles from the Richmond start. It was great to have a ride start just a mile from my house...I rode to the ride.

It was quite hot and humid. I was not up for the 100 miles. I was real happy to see the beer truck at the end!

I had my weekly club road race on over 41km and came 2nd and averaged 32.4km/hr which I was stoked about, nearlly 1km/hr faster then the last time I raced the same course and it didn't hurt nearlly as much!!
