Wow, that's wild! It's a small world(now lets all sing). It seems it's a message and your shop should start a ride

Just had to share this...
Over the last week running hubby has been preparing for a very cold 24 hr mtn bike race this weekend- 24 hrs in the old pueblo. There was snow on the course earlier this week.
Well we were recounting stories of when hubby and his buddies did an organized ride that got snowed out. But since they travelled hours to get there they decided to do it anyway. It was in a small northern ca town called Chester. And the organizing shop was called Bodfish bicycles. The shop was known for putting on some great rides. The boys looked forward to this Oct ride for months. So when it ended up snowing that weekend they went anyway. The shop owner cancelled the ride, but when the guys insisted they were going he decided to follow them in his truck. They didnt end up making it very far... It was quite an adventure.
So in the act of pulling out the gortex socks and shoe covers that havent been touched in years, bodfish bikes came to mind many times. And they were crazy fond memories.
It's been YEARS!! Like over 12 I believe, since it pre dates running son.
So today at the shop a couple of semi pro road racers came in to borrow some tools. There is a stage race in our area this weekend, so they came in for some help. So hubby starts talking with one of the kids about where they are from. Turns out nor cal. Then somehow in the conversation they discover that he is the SON of the owner of the famous bodfish bicycles!!
It was just so strange since we hadn't thought of the shop in years, but just this past week we have thought about them a lot. And then his son walks in!
Seems more than just a random coincidence to me???
But very cool!

I'm a lurker, first post here, but just wanted to say that I ride with Colby's mother, Lisa. I live about 40 minutes east of Chester, CA. Lisa and Chuck are wonderful people. I don't know Colby, but I've heard of his riding for years, and how he started doing centuries at a young age. Wonder if he'll be attending the Tour of California as a spectator. Wish I was closer.
I love small world stories!![]()
hey Netta-
He is racing here in AZ this weekend. He said that he hopes his team makes it into the toc next year.
VERY small world indeed!! Please tell Chuck and Lisa hello for us, and pass on the story. Our friends Albert and Dave were on that snowy ride, and loved that we met their son.

Runny Mommy - The club I belong to has some elite women racing there this weekend. Seems there were multiple crashes in the women's field today. If you have a chance to watch tomorrow, watch for Team Revolution. One of the riders is around 4 or 5 now in the GC. Actually my avatar is their logo.
Huh. We were just talking about him last week with an old friend. Plus, I'd just been sorting through old boxes of trail info and came across some stuff from him.

Hmmm... thinking of going up to the crit tomorrow before I have to open the shop. I'll keep my eyes out.
Too bad about the crashes! How did they happen?? It was a nice day here today- albeit cool. But not really windy. Tho casa grande can get gusty winds.
SK.. thats pretty funny. Did you ever do any bodfish rides? I love the name of the shop... Bodfish bicycles and quiet mountain sports..
I will forward this thread on to Lisa. She'll get a kick out of it for sure!
Several years ago, my DH and I were on vacation up in Bandon, Oregon. I had taken my bike out on the highway to ride. There was construction going on so I had to stop and wait. Along came a couple on bikes that were touring down the coast of Oregon. Got to talking to them and they knew lots of other cyclists from the same town I was from. Mind you, Bandon is a good 8 hour drive away from my hometown. Love those small world moments.
