Cycling around New Smyrna Beach Florida?

For those who helped with the last thread, we finally found a place on rent for Spring Break - Thanks for all your help!

We'll be staying in New Smyrna Beach in a town house, leaving for a couple days at Disney.

So should I take my road bike? How is the biking, any great rides? We're still not sure about the kids bikes, the location doesn't look as kid bike friendly as some of the others we were looking at, but I'm still thinking about a couple early morning rides for me - maybe.

Any great shops in the area?

We stayed in Daytona a couple of days before heading to Disneyworld in November 2007. I saw a pretty vibrant road cycling scene, bike lanes, but the traffic is not light in the area. I am sure Oak gave you much better advice!
