I am told it is the Liver Lacerator

Today DH and I went riding at a local trail. Everytime thus far we have come to a part another girl told me is called the "Liver Lacerator" and I took the fire road while DH bombs down the drop. Now to be fair the drop is scary looking from the top especially when you watch your experienced husband bomb it fast. It is a really steep drop down to a burm in a turn. Just looks hairy.

Alleyoop and I had been talking about it a couple weeks ago and I thought it over knowing I wanted to try it. Today I kept that little gem to myself and let DH bomb down it and then said "I am ready". We stood studying it for a good 5-10 minutes but it took a young boy (12?) on a Walmart bike living down the hill to convince me. See he said it was his first time to do it and he made it, we cheered loudly for him. So I went and it was scary but I just pushed my body back, covered but not pulled the brakes and went. I was proud to have not said anything colorful. So another thing I can check off as conquered. My heart rate got to 193, I think I was a little scared.

Maybe next time I can take a picture for true illustration.

I have one of those drops I have not mastered yet. I took a pic of it with my cell phone cam once (as I was dismounted staring at it). It will stay as the screen saver on my cell until I get it.

Hey, that was so exciting, just reading about it.

I am so envious, I would love to do that stuff but just cannot afford to come off my bike and get any injuries.......no, I'm just a scaredy cat.

I am not sure how it got the name but it is an awful name! We will go back in two weeks, maybe DH can snap an action shot.

Miranda- Other than steepness this isn't too awful a drop. I mean it is steep and big but smooth. It is one of those weird ones that looks so much worse from the top than when you successfully clear it. Hopefully next time I don't have to sit and stare at it but I bet it will take some coaxing to do again!

YEAH FOR YOU!! I am so proud of you!! BTW, it got that name because that is the injury it gave somone before they put the berm up.

You got me, it is my turn! I am all over it next time I go there with someone. Last time I rode there it was alone, early in the morning with NO other bikers in the parking lot... so I was afraid if I biffed it that noone would find me! But I am ready!

BTW: We did Warda this weekend and it was FUN. You are right, not so hard as RHR, but still good. I wasn't going to let that Gass Pass get me, and it turns out it wasn't too bad! The Mule Trace had a steeper downhill, I think, plus some of the cliffs were scary. I rode all but the uphill part of Mule (the steep one with the dropoff on the side, Sheesh!!) What did you think of the suspension bridge?? I am willing to bet that the Cat3 will include Gass Pass, but NOT the Mule Trace portion. I wouldn't want to see beginners getting hung up on that stuff. The second time we did the loop I lead and I went AS FAST as a could. Oh Baby!

Whew- I am glad I didn't know the story behind the name! Just a hint, down the right side is smooth but you gotta be alert at the bottom. Really you are way ahead of me so you should have no problems. I won't lie it was scary but it is smooth down, just fast! I had so much adrenaline I cannot even remember what the trail out looks like, if you have to climb back out or what! I have to say even after I told C I wanted to take a stab at it the only reason I did it was I watched 4 people do it, including the mentioned 12 year old on the Walmart Magna!

C did beginner race last time at Warda in 2004 or 2005 and they did have Gas Pass and the bridge (he didn't remember Mule Trace). BUT the trail was running the opposite direction. The way that trail is off-camber I just don't see how it could safely be used in the beginner. There is some bypass to Mule Trace so maybe? Many people aren't going to want to ride it which I would think the organizers know and would be hesistant to create a bottle jam, ya know? I can't imagine they would use it after bypassing the Wall and Grind at RHR but I don't know. That drawbridge was a little intimidating, I think I made it all but the last few feet because I got so worn out!

I am glad you got out there to try it, it is a nice trail and on non-race days so quiet. And those longhorns are so mellow, a lot better than the dogs at Walnut or BCGB. C said after riding the Greenbelt he was really impressed with your ability and you could race Warda if you want, he didn't imagine you would have any problems. Of course you know the boys, they think things are just easy as pie.

I'm convinced that people (especially mountain bikers) can hurt themselves on anything if they try hard enough. If it makes you feel better, this particular liver that was lacerated was done on a straight piece of singletrack that was wet (thus proving my theory). So go have fun!

True. My husband has had some nasty wrecks. His worst though was spraining a wrist when he rode his bike into the back of a PARKED 18 wheeler when he was still in college.
