    Year end recap

More than total mileage or anything, this tells the story of my year. The red dots are everywhere I logged a ride or a run this year. Nothing overseas this year though.

What about everyone else? What's the story of your year in fitness?

    You get around, girl!

My year was, eh. I finished a few 200Ks but I didn't have much in the motivation department.

Next year will be different, and interesting.

Very cool, Oakleaf!! That's a great measure.

I had the duly planned taper year (though I didn't plan the broken shoulder ). Lacked a lot of fitness and motivation throughout. Whatever. I coached the Death Ride and my people had a great ride and I did the whole thing, so it's all relative and just shows to go you what your head can do when your body is not at its best.

It seems like every few years I have a down year motivation wise and that's just my head telling me it needs a break. That said, my lactate levels are better now than they were in March so I a poised for a good comeback. Still planning out what 2009 will look like. Off to eCycling to further stage my comeback.

    That's a lot of traveling!

Jo, your 2009 is going to be awesome. You've got a great coach, highly motivational, a wonderfully supportive honey and friends who will yell at you if you need it.

My year started stinky with a hamstring issue. I got that resolved in April, too late in the season to do 5 double centuries, the planned 2008 goal.

So I decided I would do a Half Ironman in August instead. I think my first season of triathlon went pretty well. I did two sprints, an Olympic, The HIM and a duathlon.

Lack of riding time caused me to DNF on my December 200 K. I did complete 9, one a month starting in March. I can tell you that it's really hard to only ride your bike when you're doing a 200K.

We didn't travel this year, other than Maine at Thanksgiving. I did run there on Thanksgiving Day. But everything else was here in CA.

OakLeaf, Wow! That's a lot of places!!! The furthest from home that I rode my bike (I don't run) in 2008 was about 60km away. But at least I rode!

I made my goal of 2000 miles, plus a little extra (2022). It was a huge push for me, and took more time than I'd planned for, but what a satisfying accomplishment!

In fact, my original goal last January was 1500 miles for the year, but I reached 1000 by late May, so I nudged the number upward to give myself a tougher goal to shoot for.

I also logged some of my longest-ever rides---four that were between 50 and 60 miles. I'm toying with the notion of signing up for a century next year.....

My 'big' adventure was doing a week-long bike tour of the Natchez Trace with WomanTours: 226 miles in five days of riding---HUGE for me.

Where I fell down was in the core strength-building department. And I paid for it by having a nagging backache for much of the second half of 2008. So I'm determined this (new) year to put some of my focus on getting stronger in all the right ways......I wouldn't mind being a little faster too!

Oakleaf that is a great looking map!

I started riding and logging my miles in June and since it doesnt look like I will be able to ride today .... my year end looks like this:

    Miles- 2,076 miles
    Rides- 100

I rode my first century in Sept and since then I had a set back with my knee so I have had to back way off. I hope I will be able to do a few half and full centuries in 2009.

    Happy New Year everyone!

Our travels for running/biking were not a big as the year before (2007) and hopefully his new year will bring more opportunities!
Let me see what I can remember:

Lots of running/biking in home state of Florida!
MS 150 ride in Rhode Island in August
1/2 Marathon in San Antonior Tx in Nov.
5k Great Santa Run, Las Vegas in Dec.

    2009:
More runnning/biking in home state of Florida
April MS 150 Houton to Austin
    Oct. Moab Woman Tours

Hopefully we will find a bit more places to bike and run this year!

We did no traveling this year, and I did only one organized ride (a metric). So I was pleasantly surprised to find myself at 3150 miles for 2008. I was hoping for 3500, but suffered from sagging motivation after Thanksgiving. That, along with a mean upper respiratory infection that is finally responding to antibiotics, has kept me off my bike on the road for about a month. I'm hoping I'll feel like riding by the weekend. Right now, I still feel like crud. How long does this dry hacking stuff go on? Bleh .

Fun post! I was going through my log tonight anyway.

Locations from the summary sheet (ski is either skate or classic XC ski):
    • Park City, UT ski, run, bike
    • Salt Lake City, UT ski, run, bike
    • Ogden Valley, UT ski, run, bike
    • Heber, UT ski
    • Bryce, UT ski, run
    • Zion, UT run
    • Los Osos CA run
    • Pismo Beach, CA run
    • Phoenix, AZ run
    • Denver, CO run
    • Bend, OR bike
    • Tulum, Mexico run
    • Fruita, CO bike
    • Logan-Wellsville, UT bike

The interesting stuff are the running stats. I logged just over 1200 miles (1206, to be exact). My goal was 1500. 11, yes, just 11 of those miles were on pavement. About 70 were on the treadmill. The rest were on the trail. Of the about 1100 left, about 270 were on snow (although it sure seemed like more...).

We won't talk about my cycling mileage. Pathetic. My usual goal is to have my cycling mileage at least double my running mileage. I didn't quite get there.

I have no idea how many pups I did. Hundreds, for sure. But not 100 in a row!

I rode outside 153 days this year, which has me wondering what I was doing the other 213. Definitely not running, or swimming, or even skiing. Hmmm.

Slackers don't set goals, since that would be counter-productive. But I did meet my ... yearly "wishes". Several centuries, a bike tour, riding out of state (Colorado, Oregon, Arizona), and volunteering (at Waves to Wine).

I've got nothing impressive like that map, for sure -
But I bought my road bike in July of this year and put 800 miles on her (which makes me incredibly proud )

I remember those weeks last spring when I wondered if I dare transition from the hybrid i'd learned on, to the sexy black & pink road bike with the oh-so-skinny tires. I still can't believe I stay upright on it (a miracle of science) - but I so love this bike, I think I'd give her a kidney if she needed it

Sadly, she still has no name - but even nameless, she knows she is loved.

I'm impressed y'all! I supposed 2008 could be summed up by the "best intentions of mice and men..." and yes, they did go astray, somewhere around august. So here's hoping 2009 is better. Considering I woke up this morning with the residue of yesterday's migraine, we won't discuss it. Maybe I'll take Breezy out for a spin in the neighborhood. That counts for something, right? I have got to be better. I know I'll feel better.

So Happy New Year, and Happy Trails everyone!

My year in fitness? Not as geographical as yours, Oakleaf... well impressed by your map though!

Most of my rides are within a 100km radius... but I did crack my road mileage goal for 2008. Although I got over 6000 kms on the bike (includes mountain bike/off-roadkms but not spin/indoors), my road goal was 5300km and I finished the year with 5471.74km.

    I'm well pleased with that.

I didn't lose any more weight, but I feel fitter and healthier than ever and thats more important to me.
