Running Tights

I'm looking for suggestions for the perfect pair of winter running tights. I currently have a pair of nike tights (very basic, black, no zippers, etc.). They're a perfect thickness and I love the fit around my legs, but the waist is CONSTANTLY slipping down! I have heard this same complaint from others. It makes it very difficult to run long distances.

Please help!!

I like Under Armor tights. If you are having trouble with them falling down, maybe you should try some that have the drawstring in the waist band.

I wear the versatx in summer and the insulator stabilyx or pro in winter.

I am 5'2" and wear the extra smalls and they fit great. They also have a drawstring to make the waist tighter if needed (I haven't needed to use it).

P.S. Summer and winter I use these tights for cycling as well, over my padded shorts. I can be out in the sun for 6+ hours with these UPF 50 tights and my UPF 50 long-sleeve REI lightweight MTS zip shirt (alone, or under a regular cycling jersey or jacket), no sunscreen underneath, and nary a tan line!

I have the same unfortunate problem with my nike tights, even though i use the ties. I do have a pair of under armour tights that i like the fit of.

Funny you should ask. I'm sitting in my brand new (tags still on) running tights I just got tonight.

After the temps dipped down into the single digits last night I knew it was time to bite the bullet and get some warmer ones.

I ended up buying the Wanganui tight by Brooks. They feel awesome and fit well. Hopefully they will perform well too, but I'll find that out. I'm almost tempted to go run in them tonight yet.

To give you an idea these Brook tights tie at the waist and the waistband is fleece wrapped elastic so between those two things that should help them from slipping down.

I'll let you know what I think once I've tried them out though. Hth for now!

Alright, I made it out for a 5miler tonight and the tights were great. It was about mid 20's while I was running and my legs weren't cold. I was actually a little to warm when I got home.

I liked the way the fabric moved and never found myself pulling the legs up like I have while running or cycling in my other tights (which are Nike). Not having to worry about the crotch sagging down leaving room for my upper thighs to chafe is nice too.

They were expensive $120 (I had a $25 discount though), but I think it will be worth it.

Sugoi Midzero tights and Sugoi Subzero tights (depending on how cold it is). I have several pairs of each and they are my favorite winter tights (I also have Hind, Nike, CWX etc).

The fit is extremely comfortable, with enough room for "female" hips/butt while not gapping around a narrowish waist.

The fabric is very wind and weather resistant while being breathable. It has a cozy fleecy nap on the inside (although the pile is very low and I wouldn't call them "fleece lined").

In general, I love Sugoi.

My favorite winter running pants are Brooks Thermal Visibility Pants. They are toasty warm and cozy, have wider legs and zip bottoms, and have a waist tie... without that, they all fall down on me! Got mine at REI.

I must have no hourglass -- but a vase shape! Everything slides down.

+2 for Sugoi tights (and shorts for that matter). Nice fit, good material. I have a pair of Midzeros that I like for running. Great fit and material.

I wear their cheapest tight, the Helix, for cycling. Even though they're made of a thinner material, they work really well for me over either shorts or knickers in cold weather. I've worn much more expensive tights with less success.

Someone should make bib style with no chamois. Or maybe they do. I just wear my Cannondale tights I have for cycling (no chaimois and silcone grippers). I must say though I live in Texas and it is hard to justify a winter wardrobe for cycling or running. It was 60 degrees here this weekend and a cold front is blowing in tonight, lows about 45.
