I am a new rider. I would like to find someone to ride with in Midtown, Decatur or South Atlanta.

    Andrea,

Sorella Cycling (www.sorellacycling.com) has a beginner's/recovery ride on Monday nights out of Avondale, near enough to Decatur. It begins at 6:30 from the parking lot behind Avondale Pizza, but check the website because the times will start moving up as it gets darker earlier. Please make sure to tell the ride leaders that you're new to the ride AND new to cycling. They'll make sure you don't get dropped, and someone will fill you in on the rules of the road. Helmets and positive attitudes required.

Other places to look for rides is www.bikesbl.org -- the Southern Bike League has a calendar of rides all over town.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

    Stone Mountain Rider

    Hi Andrea,
The MACC (Metro Atlanta Cycling Club) has a great ride for beginners the first Saturday every month at the Silver Comet Trail that starts at the Depot.
These guys were great in observing proper riding etiquette on the trails as so many riders zoom by and you have to compete with pedestrians for the same path. I've started training at Stone Mtn park and am slowly working up my laps to 2 1/2. I'm too twitchy to be on the local roads right now.

The Sorella team is also pretty good if you're able to hang with them.
