Marin County MTB Retreats, August 2008, with Jacquie Phelan

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I commented on a post at Jaquie Phelan's blog today, and got a response from her notifying me of a fat tire retreat that she's hosting in Marin Cty, CA in August. I would loooooove to go but can't, so Jacquie asked if I had any friends who might be interested. Of course I thought of TE

For those of you who live in the San Fran area, and for anyone who might be wondering what to do with August vacation time, here are the details:

    ONLY IN MARIN
Two opportunities to live on the mountain that made Marin famous.

    Four days
    Wed-Sat, Aug 13-16
    $500/person incl. food & beer

    Three days
    Tues-Thurs, Aug 26-28.
    $400/person incl food & beer

    Limited space - don’t delay!

    West Point Inn, Mt Tam
Lodging at a hundred year old inn reached only by bicycle or foot means evening silence (only the sound of a banjo and much merriment).
No ice machine. No telephones. No electricity.
Pack a flashlight! There IS gaslighting in the main lodge, however, so no worries.
It is very special, and the kitchen is impressively set up for a certain wombat chef to strut her stuff (with your help doing the chopping and the dishes).

Half the Mountain Bike Hall Of Famers live at the base of the mountain. One of them is your hostess.

    Directions
Google-map Panoramic Highway (Mill Valley, Calif) , Pantoll Ranger Station (Mt. Tam State Park) ‘cos that is where you will leave your car- --it’s 2 miles of dirt road into the Inn and you will be pedaling it with your kit strapped on your bike (or left in the car…there is a $9 per night carparking fee).
Or, ride from San Francisco (about a four hour ride) or Fairfax (a three hour, ten mile, 2400 ft elevation ordeal, er, jaunt).

I get that Mt. Tam is the birthplace of mountain biking ( some say) and all that, but what exactly would I be paying $500 for?

At a guess, I'd say lodging and food, as well as mtb rides with and entertainment from The Original Wombat. I have no details beyond that. You could always e-mail Jacquie and ask her.

It looks like food and lodging (and West Point Inn is VERY cool), but I wonder if there are any rides or clinics or anything during the time as well?
