totally off-topic - do cats growl?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Something is living under my front doorstep. I haven't seen it yet but I heard it growl at my dog today. Usually cats hiss at her, but this was definitely a low growl. It didn't sound like another dog though. Any ideas?

The space where I think it got in there is too small for my dog to get in, so whatever it is must be smaller than a springer spaniel. It likes kibble, chicken, and water.

Zen - it sounds very much like that. Thank you.

    Trek - I don't think we do.

Guess I'll be phoning bylaw on Monday to see if they can come get it. Hopefully it can stay warm enough down there to get through the weekend. It's pretty well sheltered and I gave it an old shirt in case it wants more than dirt for a bed.

If it's a cat growling, then it's really scared and angry, and possibly feral. A hissing cat is about to fight its way out, in my opinion.

It may be a mama who gave birth under your stairs. If you keep feeding it, you might have lots of little kitties on your hands.

    No, not WAR kittens! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yosTIwbFjzM#

I think the best thing to do is get the animal control folks and get it out of there. If it's feral, you don't want it setting up residence under there. If it's not feral, it probably has a home and someone's looking for it.

*lol* one of mine snores - at the foot of the bed every night!

And, yes, two of mine growl. They are brothers and both growl when they see a stranger come to the house. They sound more like a dog than the youtube video zen posted though.

Oh yes, cats growl. Our two cats don't get along (even after a year and a half of living together) and the girl is always growling at the boy. It's like Animal Kingdom in our house!

Blue, my old Russian Blue cat, used to give lessons in growling and all sorts of other feline profanities. He was quite a character, and a whole lot more fuss than fight

Here is the best 'growling' cat video of all time. I laugh every time I see it!

Cats not only growl they can talk. I wasn't looking once and stepped on my kitten and I swear he called me a bitch I was very surprised and apologized to him profusely while he glared at me.
