    Closing out 2007 - results?

    So, all....
2007 has only a short time to go before it's in the hopper for good.
I was on bikejournal.com just a bit ago, looking at the TE club mileage results.
    Some pretty impressive numbers there.
    Got me thinking.....
My 2007 goal - mileage wise - was 2500. I'm just a few miles shy of 3,000 right now, and can reach that with 2 days on the rollers (yes, I count roller miles!) if the weather turns icky. That will be a personal record for me. Ever. Pretty psyched about that one. I wanted to complete the Civil War Century, and did (it wasn't pretty, but it was completed). I wanted to complete the Seagull Century, but family commitments prevented it. I wanted to commute more days this year than last, and although I haven't tallyed those yet, I think I did pretty well there. I got back out in the woods again this year on my mtb with folks from here and from the local off-road advocacy and ride group....and - importantly - really enjoyed myslf. And lastly, I treated myself royally to a custom bike for my 40th b'day this year.
All-in-all, a good year biking for me. I hope to have good health in the new year to continue.....

So, How did things go for you? Did you do all you wanted to do? What were your big accomplishments for the year?

I fell short of my mileage and climbing goals by quite a bit. I did complete three pretty tough double centuries. I'd call it an okay year.

I won 2 state championships, was second in a third, won the BARR (best all around rider) for the cat 4's and upgraded to a 3, so all in all a very good year for me.
Here's to next year and racing with the big girls.

I surpassed my mileage goal with 5,175 miles for the year. I was hoping for 4,500 initially and then upped it to 5,000. Since I live in the flatlands, I didn't have a climbing goal, but I ended up doing a number of event rides: I did my first century in May at the Horsey Hundred. I did the Ride Across Indiana in July and finished within the top third of about 1100 riders. And I did the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee in September, which was my first week-long tour. For my first full year of riding, I'm more than pleased.

Perhaps most importantly, I made a lot of friends, learned to ride safely and efficiently in a paceline, led a ride for my local club, gutted it out on some rides that were faster and/or harder than I thought I could handle, and gained a ton of confidence in myself. Now I'm ready for 2008!
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

It looks like after my New Year's Eve commute, I'll end the year with 3273 miles, well short of my goal of 4000 miles. (In mid-July, I decided that after riding to work every day I didn't want to ride so much on the weekends, so my mileage dropped off.)

Nonetheless, I'll end the year with 159 bike commutes and my first century completed. I did a few mountain bike rides, which I loved, and I got my fabulous new commuting bike, which rides like a luxury car. I got to ride with Regina, Kalidurga, MDHillSlug, Withm, Bike4ever, Sunnyside, and Zencentury from here at TE.

Not a bad year at all...

It has by all accounts be a great year for me on my bike. I had set a goal of 5500 miles (indoor & outdoor) for 2007. As of today I've logged a total of 7303 miles (indoor & outdoor). I pulled out my goal sheet today and I met all but one of goals (mileage on the recumbent I owned). So as it goes I logged 5148 miles on my Univega on the road, 390 miles on the recumbent I no longer own, 241 miles on my new bike and 1524 miles on my trainer. I had set a goal of 4 centuries and I started and finished 9 with the longest being 128 miles. Most importantly, I felt strong and confident on my bikes and with each stroke of the pedals I felt my confidence grow. I've had a great year and all those miles in the end (from June on) were a very cheap form of therapy as well - I'm mentally and physcially much stronger and looking forward to 2008 - what will it bring?

I managed to bike 3400 miles outside this year, with lots of rolling hills. That's really way more than I thought I would do for my first full year of biking, so I'm happy.
For me it's not so much about miles but more about fitness. But sometimes the only way to describe how much you bike is by stating miles, so it tends to seem to give miles more importance that I actually do give it.
My goal for 2008 is not to ride more miles, but to average a faster speed overall. Again, not because speed is that important to me, but rather because a faster overall speed will indicate to me that I am getting stronger.

    met/exceed my goal

I just posted over on BJ. I passed my last years total of 5300.88 with my current at 5306. I'm a capricorn and I'm thrilled. Had more vacations w/o my bike but just kept at it whenever I could. This brings my lifetime miles to 11000+(I started in Sep 2005 at 57). Yep that's right...big 60 in Jan 2008...wheee what a ride.

I never set a yearly goal for climbing but did start tracking elevation gain after I bought a polar and then an edge 305. That number is 210,188'. how's that really? not so good I bet for folks near some real 'hills'.

Improved my speed(not much but some) 2006 was 13.76 overall with 2007 at 14.2 and my HR avg from 124 in 2006 to 130 in 2007. I really believe I am fitter and am hoping that my interpreation of these few numbers support this hypothesis. You can tell me if I'm wrong so I can get set for 2008!
Reading all your posts(here and BJ) really have motivated me this year..especially when I feel alone(not many of my 'old' friends bike)

    Cheers..Happy New Year!

    Wow, Eden, you rock!
and Lisa, you left me in the DUST!

I made my goal of 2500 miles/ 4000 kilometers and quit riding in November. There just hasn't been much weather conducive (for me) to riding since then.

    All you gals, great jobs!

I surpassed my goal of 3 centuries when we added a self-supported one. We did century out of state, which is a feat when it takes 8 hours to leave the state! Instead of going to New Mexico for a mountain century we opted to go to Disneyworld, so I missed the goal of riding the Enchanted Circle.

My mileage goal is 3,500 and I am 94 miles shy. I have three days and I still think I can do it. At one point I thought I would go way passed it but I have been sick and off the bike too much this year.

My goal next year is 4 centuries, The Enchanted Circle Century and 4,000 miles.

Well I've been in the 2500 mile quest on Bike Journal, but right now I'm about 72 miles short and rain in the forecast for the next two days, so while I'm still going to try to do this - well it just might not happen.

That said, so far I have ridden 427 miles more than last year, and done 3 metric centuries (my first) including the Seagull (metric).

And had at least 6 flat tires (all rear wheel) and bought 3 new tires. When I get a flat, I do it right! Twice I really trashed the tire. Switched to kevlars and got much better wear, but took a 2-1/2" nail last week that really did a number on the tire, tube, rim tape, and probably the wheel too. UGH.

I did not do as many commutes as I would like but I probably did twice as many as the year before. Commuting would be more fun if it didn't usually entail 13 miles of headwinds.

Haven't decided yet what the goal is for next year. Will have to go thru the log and see exactly how many commutes I really did and increase that for next year, and probably up the goal mileage by whatever that number is. Sound like too much math for this late at night.

Oh Withm I've been rooting for you! Partly because you're so close that I'd hate to see you miss it, and partly because I'm not going to make my 2500 mile goal and I figured maybe I could try to have the highest mileage of those who did not make it.

I was well on my way to making my 2500 mile goal but had to cut back riding for two months because of injury. At that point, I accepted I wouldn't make it this year but I feel great about what I have accomplished.

    • I beat my 2006 mileage by 700 km.
    • I climbed to the top of Knox Mountain without stopping.
    • I did my first organized metric in 3:45.
    • I did my first full century (unsupported) which included over 5700 feet of climbing.
    • I cycled about 375km in Provence, France on my honeymoon in July!
    • I had many new personal bests for speed and climbing times.
    • And most importantly, I had a ton of fun riding!!

Our BARR is just for our state (Washington) and consists of all the State Championship races - so Road Race (second), crit (first), TT(forth, but points for third since 1st place was not a state rider), TTT (ninth), circuit race (I was out of town at another race..), hillclimb (first) and stage race (fifth). The idea is to reward consistancy across the disciplines, though you can do well even if you only race a few races if you win them.... in the men's 1/2 field second place only did 2 of the series, but he won both of them.
