Talking My BF took my brand new fixie!!!

So I got my first, very first fixie this weekend. I was soo excited when I put that one last bit on it, the cog and lock ring! I bought it as a single speed for a great price, and then I've been fixing it up and making it mine, and finally FINALLY this weekend it was done! I love it! And what's great is the more I ride it, the more I love it!

I ride it almost every day, from my BF's house to school and back, several times a day. It's amazing how smooth it is! it feels so good!
And now he took it to class I love him, but well, he's a bit of a clutz....I'm worried about my baby!!! ....and my BF too...haha.

What's a typical gear ratio for fixies?? What I have is 42/16, and I'm wondering what the differences would be for other gear ratios, would it be easier to stop with a ratio like 50/16? or harder?

Who out there has fixies? How do you like them?!?!?

Bikes are so worth the effort!!

Make sure you have a good lock for it, and that your BF USES it!

    No pictures?

I had a long response typed out last night and lost it!

Yes, I ride fixie! My boyfriend/coach who just did Furnace Creek 508 (yes...it's a 508 mile race!) on his FG (49/16) got me hooked recently. I'm currently riding his Pinarello Pista, but we're going to build a Milwaukee steel frame fixie for me eventually. My gearing is 46/17 right now.

Check out his website www.epictrain.com for lots of good info. He has a gear inch calculator there, here's the direct link to it... http://epictrain.com/files/Gear_Inch_Calculator.xls Play around with it and input your current gearing and the gearing that you're thinking of using (50/16) to see the variance in cadence at certain speeds.

hm, if you don't want him to use the bike, i suggest you trick it out all in pink.
    that might work.

I tried putting my pink and white seat on it, as well as my bright pink bell, nothing seems to work!! Unfortunately it's a slick black bike, so if you lose the pink it looks like a boy's bike.

    It's still my baby

I'm still working on getting pics up
