    Unhappy Century NOT!!!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Bit naffed off tonight
set off this am to do the CENTURY
Had to get in the "mop up" vehicle at 73 miles
I have never seen such big hills and such steep inclines on my cycling yet!!!!
Seriously this is not and excuse but a reason.
I did feel i could complete the 100 but the organisers were insisting on all who had not reached a certain point by a certain time had to get in the van.
However i did feel cheered by the fact i was not the first nor the last to get in All the rest were guys and one was 22 so seeing as I am "old enough to be his mother" this cheered me on again,
Until I remembered I had to let TE know my "failure"
thanks for all your support and I will do my century in the future!!!

Nope- no such thing as failure. You drop that word right now, missy!

You were out there and rode for 73 difficult miles. You should be proud of yourself! I know it wasn't the ride you set out to do, but look how far you got. And there were men (some very young) that couldn't hang on either. That should make you feel very proud for the distance that you were able to go.

You'll get it next time. You will!

I'm sorry you had a tough day. There's always another. Is 73 miles a personal best distance for you???

    You didn't fail.
You simply had a lesson in how not to do a century
Maybe you can find one that's not quite so hilly. Ask around.

You did great in fact. Much further than I'll ever be able to ride

Ummm... Scarlett... "failure", when used in respect to oneself, is a NONO!!!

Now, go write your lines... I am a success... I am a success...

    You see, the way I look at it;

    - you intended to ride 100miles - thats 160kilometres, and thats my goal to achieve before the end of the year... you have a MAJOR headstart on me - kudos to you... I keep putting it off...

    - you actually rode 73 miles. That must be 15-20kms further than my longest ride - you ROCK!

    - you recognised what your body was saying, you listened to it and you responded in the RIGHT way... You could have chosen NOT to hop in the sag-wagon - I know people who have... I know some cyclists who push themselves way past what they can cope with and then make themselves sick, or bonk and place others in danger or just make other worry unecessarily. Well done you, for listening to your body and acting responsibly...

Now... how are those lines going?

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

I hate those time cut-offs. On my first century in May, they closed the showers at 4:00. Thanks to getting lost I didn't get in til 4:15. Fortunately I wasn't far from my brother's house, cause I was far from home.

But remember, you didn't wimp out. They did.

73 hilly miles is a darned good ride.
That is an accomplishment in its own right.

And hey...you're in the UK - so by metric standards....at 73 miles, you did well over a century (100 km = 62 miles).

So - CHEERS!! Here's to success, and a different sort of century next time.

You should be proud of yourself for taking on such a tough challenge. That makes you a WINNER! Congratulations on your awesome ride!
