    Ironman Louisville

Yeah! I'm going to Louisville tomorrow to watch the finish of Ironman Louisville.

Even though I don't expect that I'll do an ironman, I still have the highest respect and awe for the competitors in Ironmans. I just think that it will be incredibly awe-inspiring to watch.

I don't think the Mr. gets it. There are several local people that will be participating but no one that I know well.

    Does anyone know anyone participating?

DH has 5 friends participating, 2 will be in the 10'ish hour range, one hopefully around 12, not as sure about the other 2. Have a great time, I know he wishes he could be there cheering them on. Looks like a great day compared to the heat we've been having. Have a blast!

Let us know how it goes! I plan to sign up for Ironman Kentucky 2008 on Monday!

Also, I heard the swim is now going to be a time trial start due to the course having to be changed some because of strong currents. So, the 12:00 PM cut off isn't going to be in effect.

Details relating to the new Ford Ironman Louisville swim course are as follows:

    * On race morning, athletes will walk 3/4 mile from Waterfront Park to the swim start, located at the Brown Forman Amphitheater, just east of Tumbleweed Southwest Grill.
    * Athletes will self-seed themselves at the start based on their projected swim time.
    * A mass swim start will begin at 6:50 a.m. for nearly 40 professional athletes, and a time trial start will follow at 7 a.m. for age group athletes.
    * To reduce athlete congestion during the swim, the time trial start will consist of athletes entering the water every few seconds. Athletes will be required to cross a timing mat before entering the water, to record their official start time. Overall finish times will reflect the time at which each athlete enters the water, vs. the 7 a.m. start time.
    * The new swim course will encompass the traditional 2.4 miles. As a result of the increased river flow downstream, slightly faster swim times can be expected.
Should be very interesting to see how they manage the finish line.

A friend who's there said because of all the rain in the Ohio River Valley, the current is very strong. There apparently is a 400m upstream swim and then the rest is downstream (I think that's what he said). Said the upstream took 20 min, coming back downstream only took 5 min. Swim times are expected to be FAR quicker than normal. That's my kind of swim!

Have fun, Silver. It IS awe inspiring to watch a race like that. Volunteering at one was what convinced me to do one the next year. The whole atmosphere is amazing. Just have an open mind, because once you've seen it- you may catch the bug...
    Have a great time!!!

I've only done the three local sprints and there's not much competition in my age group.

Anyway, my background is marathons. I've done 7....but I've had stress fracture issues in my feet from running. I had a stress fracture in my left heel bone and then I had an avulsion fracture in my right second metatarsal. I had to have surgery to remove the bone sliver. Sooooo, I don't aspire to ever run another marathon. I would, however, like to do a HIM. I think these old bones could handle that.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to going this afternoon. It's a 90 minute drive from here.

I'll probably get emotional. I think anyone who completes the 140.6 is just incredibly awe-inspiring! My hats off to all you ladies who have.

    I'll be thinking of Wahine!!!

I handed out medals at the Memphis marathon when I couldn't participate. (I was training for that when I broke my heel bone). It was just incredible.
